Reading is Fun, Relaxing, and Educational!

 

We are working on developing our comprehension of books we read. Here are some strategies we are using:

1. Ask "I wonder" questions.

2. Make predictions.

3. Create a mental picture.

4. Consider what the character is feeling.

 

We are working on developing some good decoding strategies. These are the strategies we have been practicing in the classroom:

1. Get your mouth ready.

2. Slide through the words.

3. Look at the pictures.

4. Make sure what you read makes sense, looks right, and sounds right.

5. Chunking; finding small words inside larger ones.

6. Try a different vowel sound (we know each vowel has at least a long and short sound).

7. Think of a rhyming word you know.

 

HERE WE ARE ENJOYING BOOKS!

We read on our own, with a friend, with a teacher, or with a group. Sometimes we read around the room. It is so much fun :)
