Math
We will start
Unit 7 : Exploring Mulitplication and Division. This
unit will further reinforce the concepts of multiplication and
division that were introduced earlier. The children will encounter
word problems that require using multiplication and division.
We will also continue to practice addition and subtraction
using 3 and 4 digit numbers with regrouping.
Language Arts
The children are starting a new unit on fantasy. The core book
for this unit is Catwings. The children will be signing
out fantasy books to read and keeping a record of them similiar
to what they did while reading folktales. This will allow them
to read many books of this genre.
This unit focuses on distinguishing elements of fantasy and reality
within a story, character mapping, opinion-proof, and summarizing.
Word Study : Compound Words and Adverbs
Writer's Workshop : The children will have lessons on good leads.
They will begin writing their own fantasy stories.
Social Studies/
Science
We will our study of rocks and minerals. The students will continue
experimenting with different rocks and mineral. We will also
learn about the three major classifications for rocks, and the
rock cycle.
