Math Summer Work

Dear Parents and Students,

Several parents and students have requested additional math practice sheets for students to work on over the summer to help them prepare for eighth grade mathematics.

The attached pages offer materials ranging from remediation to reinforcement to enrichment. It is not expected that any student complete them all. Rather, students and their parents should choose assignments to suit their particular needs.

Several of the worksheets have been taken from the seventh grade CMP2 units. These pdf files can be downloaded with Adobe Acrobat, which is available online at no cost. The titles of the files give an idea of what they are, so they don’t need to be downloaded before choosing. For example, STRETCH_SHRINK_INV3_SKILL_POLYGONS would be a skill development sheet from Investigation 3 of Stretching and Shrinking. This particular skill sheet is designed to develop skills in working with polygons.

Other worksheets are scans of pages in a book entitled Number Power – A Real World Approach to Math by Robert Mitchell. These sheets provide easy-to-understand explanations for students who are struggling with the concepts.

Students are also encouraged to attempt the “Problems of the Week” available on the MathCounts.org website. A new set of problems is posted every Monday, with the solution posted a week later. Students can also search the archives for problems.
