COLLOQUIAL/MODERN STANDARD ARABIC I
Description: This course is designed for non-native speakers of Arabic. The goals of this beginning course are to teach students to communicate in both Egyptian Colloquial Arabic and Modern Standard Arabic, and to immerse them in an authentic cultural context. The basic objectives of this course are to help students attain equal proficiency in the four language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing in order to understand the language within the context of the contemporary Arabic speaking world and its culture. 
Arabic script is introduced at the beginning of the course.
The main focus of this proficiency oriented course is to develop the students' basic communication in both Colloquial Arabic and Standard Arabic. In this level the student is introduced to the language through a variety of techniques which develop communicative competence: everyday situations, conversations, creative face to face dialogues, oral presentations, text handling, written exercises and compositions. The student is introduced to Egyptian and Arab culture and life through a situation approach and a wide range of media presentations.
Juniors interested in IB Ab Initio SL program will be assigned extra work.

COLLOQUIAL/ MODERN STANDARD ARABIC II

Description: This course is designed for students who passed successfully Level I Colloquial/Standard Arabic. This level reinforces the proficiency oriented approach which focuses upon communicative competence and the exposure to an authentic cultural context.
In this course the student is expected to demonstrate at the appropriate level, the communicative skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing about everyday situations, as well as cultural and media texts.
The main objectives of this course are to engage the student in conversations dealing with everyday situations, to enable students to understand short written passages and to extract specific information from texts such as advertisements, letters, cartoons, and to carry out speaking tasks which might include messages and simple letters.
This proficiency oriented course will continue to develop the student's communicative competence and to strengthen his/her creativity in using the four language skills. 
This course is also for seniors who are have completed the 
Ab Initio I. these students will continue to be assigned extra work in preparation for the IB SL Ab Initio examination.

COLLOQUIAL/MODERN STANDARD ARABIC III

Description: This course is designed for students who passed successfully Colloquial/Standard Arabic II. 
The main objectives of this course are to refine the student's proficiency in the manipulation of the more complex skills in Foreign Language learning: listening, speaking, reading and writing, to intensify the creative process in language expression, and , to immerse the student in authentic language and media presentations.. Students will learn to carry out a variety of high frequency communicative tasks ranging from basic communication to more complex functions such as telling a story, stating and supporting opinion, and hypothesizing. This level will strengthen and refine the student's skills in structural and lexical competence, written productions, and communicative performance with emphasis on text handling and creative writing.

COLLOQUIAL/MODERN STANDARD ARABIC IV

Description: This course is designed for students who have successfully completed Colloquial/Standard Arabic III. It reinforces the proficiency oriented approach which focuses upon communicative competence and exposure to more complex authentic materials. In this course, emphasis is placed equally on developing the four language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Knowledge and use of increasingly more complex structures and vocabulary are stressed.
The main objectives of this course are to engage the student in understanding and manipulating a variety of authentic materials; to further develop higher level comprehension of more complex materials ranging from media presentations to short literary texts. This level will allow the student to strengthen his/her reading and writing skills through exposure to more complex texts in Standard Arabic ranging from brochures, guides, letters, short stories, plays, articles which show an awareness of the culture of the Arab world.

MODERN STANDARD ARABIC I

Description: This course is not a beginning course and is designed for native speakers who have completed the 2nd Assassi level or the equivalent in Classical Arabic and who wish to prepare for the Moadla Arabic Proficiency Exam and or the I.B. program. 
This course focuses on communicative skills of Media Standard Arabic: reading, writing, listening and speaking. Emphasis will be given to reading and writing Modern Standard Arabic and expanding the student's vocabulary through the use of a variety of texts, authentic materials, a multi-media instructional approach and immersion in the target language.
The main objectives of this course are to engage students in conversations dealing with everyday situations, to understand short written passages, to be able to extract specific information from texts such as simple brochures, guides, letters, to carry out writing tasks which might include messages, simple letters, short compositions and to show an awareness of the culture of the Arab world through multi-media presentations.

MODERN STANDARD ARABIC II
Description: This course is designed for native speakers of Arabic who have successfully completed Modern Classical Arabic I or the equivalent. The primary objective of this course is to enable the students to use correctly the structures, lexicon, poetry, composition, literary and cultural texts at the level presented in the official Classical Arabic curriculum of 5th Ebteda'i/1st Edadi levels.
Another equally important objective is to reinforce the linguistic competence of the students through a systematic study of selected literary texts: short stories, plays, and poetry.
This proficiency oriented course will continue to develop the student's creativity in using the four language skills with a particular emphasis on reading and writing skills.

MODERN STANDARD ARABIC III IB SL 1 

DESCRIPTION: This intermediate level is designed for students who have successfully completed Modern Standard Arabic II or the equivalent. The use of the acquired structures is intensified and the creative process of the language is encouraged. This level develops and refines the student's skills in structural and lexical competence, compositions and communicative performance.
The main objectives of this course are 
- to refine the student's proficiency in the manipulation of the more complex skills in language learning: listening, speaking, reading and writing.
- to intensify the creative process in language expression.
- to immerse the student in authentic language and media presentations.
- to prepare the student for the analysis of integral texts and life and civilization topics.

MODERN STANDARD ARABIC IV IB/SL2 HL 1

DESCRIPTION: In this advanced course designed for students who have successfully completed Classical Arabic III or the equivalent, special emphasis is placed on perfecting the students's comprehensive skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking. Communicative competence and refinement of writing skills, knowledge and use of complex structural and lexical expression, essay writing, and comprehension of authentic documents and media programs are also stressed in this level. 
The main objectives of this course are:
- to reinforce the acquired advanced grammatical and linguistic bases of the language.
- to strengthen the student's lexical competence in language and idiomatic forms.
- to immerse the student in authentic documents on Arabic language, culture and civilization.
- to develop the student's ability in the critical oral and written analysis of integral literary texts.
A multi-media instructional approach is a special feature of this advanced course.
Students who have successfully completed the requirements of this course will sit for the IB Subsidiary level examination.

MODERN STANDARD ARABIC V IB HL 2/A2 SL 1
DESCRIPTION: An Advanced Arabic Language, Literature and Civilization course designed for students who have successfully completed IB Arabic IV or the equivalent. This course stresses writing skills, text analysis, critical thinking as well as communicative competence and performance. 
The main objectives of this course are
- to reinforce the acquired linguistic structures and to expand the student's lexical competence.
- to immerse the student in complex authentic texts and documents of Arabic language, culture and civilization.
- to familiarize the student with the techniques of literary text analysis in both the oral and written forms. 
- to promote the student's critical thinking, reading abilities and creative writing.
Students who have successfully completed the requirements of this course will sit for the IB Higher level examination.

MODERN STANDARD ARABIC VI IB- A2 SL 2/HL 1

DESCRIPTION: An Advanced Arabic Language, Literature and Civilization course designed for students who have successfully completed Classical Arabic V or the equivalent. This course is based on the study of both literature and language. It aims to develop a variety of linguistic skills through the study of a wide range of texts, to promote an appreciation of the wealth and subtleties of the language and to facilitate the clear expression of ideas. 
The main objectives of this course are to enable students to demonstrate accuracy in the use of appropriate oral and written forms of the language in a variety of styles and situations; to demonstrate an ability to structure ideas and arguments, both orally and in writing, in a persuasive way, and to support them with relevant examples; to demonstrate an ability to engage in close and critical examination of a range of texts. The aims of this program are to :
- promote insight into the culture related to the language;
- develop students' powers of expression in both oral and written communication;
- provide the opportunity of practicing and developing the skills involved in writing and speaking in a variety of styles and situations;
- introduce students to a range of texts in different genres, media, styles and contexts;
- encourage a personal appreciation of a range of texts and develop an understanding of the techniques involved in textual study and criticism.
IB candidates taking this course are eligible for Bilingual Diploma.

DESCRIPTION: An Advanced Arabic Language, Literature and Civilization course designed for students who have successfully completed IB Arabic VI A2 HL I. This course is based on the study of both literature and language. It aims to further develop a variety of linguistic skills through the study of a wide range of texts, to promote an appreciation of the wealth and subtleties of the language and to facilitate the clear expression of ideas. 
The main objectives of this course are to enable students to demonstrate accuracy in the use of a wide range of oral and written forms of the language in a variety of styles and situations; to demonstrate an ability to structure ideas and arguments, both orally and in writing, in a persuasive way, and to support them with relevant examples; to demonstrate an ability to engage in close and critical examination of a range of texts; to demonstrate an ability to assimilate and exploit spoken and written material in different genres, media, styles and contexts; to demonstrate an insight into the texts and topics studied and into the links between them; to express a personal response to a range of texts; and to critique literary texts.
The aims of this program are to :
- promote insight into the culture related to the language;
- further develop students' powers of expression in both oral and written communication;
- provide the opportunity of practicing and developing the skills involved in writing and speaking in a variety of styles and situations;
- introduce students to a range of texts in different genres, media, styles and contexts;
