The HS Sculpture Elective is designed to give students an opportunity to explore various aspects of working in 3 dimensional form. Beginning with the most basic of exercises of manipulating clay the students learn how to draw out a figure form from. large mass of clay by simply pushing and pulling the clay. As the students develop self confidence and technical skill the work becomes more sophisticated, moving into more abstract forms and concepts.

Students explore a variety of materials from clay to plaster and found materials. Although assignments are given to the class, each student develops and creates his/her own unique piece of work within the given parameters.

One of the explorations shown in the following site are individual self portraits done in clay. The students studied the work of the American sculptor Michael Brenner. The his style is impressionst. The second exploration involves recycling scrap materials. These materials found on campus, either in the trash or in unwanted and dated discards, have become creative and unique pieces of futuristic sculptures.

The photo below shows the students proudly holding the Green Seeds School Environmental Trophy they received for completing an Environmental Action Project: Futuristic and Fantasy Sculpture from Trash and Discard. Their work is currently on display in the CAC Library/Media Center.
