Nowruz Mobarak!!!

( Iranian

New Year

Celebration)

Yar and her mom showed us how Iranians celebrate the Iranian New Year

We watched a short clip of how the Iranian New Year evolved.

We jumped over a fire to symbolize throwing away all negative feelings and moments in our lives and getting positive ones from the brightness of the fire.

Everyone, even Mrs. Dolly had to do it.

We were given spoons to bang together to create some noise.

Then, we decorated our Nowruz Cookies.

Yar's mom told us to put soil in an empty half eggshell and drop some germinated lentil seeds in it. ( Eggshell is used to denote the birth of a new fragile life.)

We have to take care of these by watering each one with half a spoon of water for 13 days.

Then we prepared the 7 S that every Iranian family prepares during the New Year.

Somaq ( Sumac) for Fertility

Sib ( Apples) for Beauty

Senjed ( Wild Olives ) for Love

Seer ( Garlic ) for Health

Sekeh ( Coins ) for Bounty

Samak ( Fish ) for Beginning of Creation

Sabzeh ( Sprouts ) Renewal

Then we did some gift-hunting.

Hannah found the first one.

All of us got one!!!! Yippeee!!!!

Nowruz Mobarak!
