Bear Bread Ingredients: 6 g. yeast 2Tbsps. oil 700 g. flour 420 ml. warm water 1 egg a pinch of salt Procedure: 1. Pour in yeast into a bowl of warm water. Leave it for 10 minutes. 2.Pour mixture into flour. Add in salt and oil. Mix and knead. Shape into a ball and brush top with oil. 3. Cover with a cheescloth and leave it in a warm place for an hour. 4. Divide dough into 4 balls, extra small, small, medium, large. 5. Get the large part, flatten and shape it into the body of the bear. 6. Using the medium ball , flatten and shape it like the head of the bear. 7. With the small ball of dough, cut into 6 parts, shaping the ears,arms and legs of the bear. 8. Attach the parts into their respective areas. 9. Form the smallest ball into eyes, nose and mouth of the bear. 10 In a small bowl, beat the egg and brush the beaten egg on the surface of the bear dough. 11. Place it in a pre-heated ( 450 degrees Fahrenheit)oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown.
Honey Biscuits Ingredients: 175 g. unsalted butter, chopped 1 cup caster sugar 1/4 cup honey 1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon 1 egg, lightly beaten 1 tsp. vanilla extract 2 1/4 cups self-raising flour Method: 1. Stir butter, sugar, honey and cinnamon in a medium saucepan over low heat until butter has melted and mixture is smooth. 2. Remove from heat and transfer mixture to a large bowl. Cool to room temperature. 3. Stir in egg, vanilla and flour. Roll tablespoons of mixture into balls. Place 4 cm. apart on two oven trays lined with baking paper and gently flatten with a fork. 4. Cook in 2 batchers at 450 degrees Fahrenheit for 12 minutes or until golden brown. Allow to cool on trays.
Baked Doughnuts( Recipe taken from allrecipe.com) In this cooking activity, children were provided with the recipe and were assigned to read ingredients by themselves. They measured ingredients with the appropriate measuring tool . It was impressive how each one contributed to the reading and execution of the recipe. Ingredients: 1 cup white sugar 2 teaspoons baking powder 1 teaspoon baking soda 2 teaspoons cinnamon 3 cups all-purpose flour 1cup buttermilk 3 eggs 1 tablespoon honey 1/2 cup butter, melted Procedure: 1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F ( 200 degrees C). Lightly grease a baking sheet, or donut baking pan. 2. In a medium bowl, mix sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and flour. Mix buttermilk, eggs, honey and butter in a separate medium bowl, and stir into the dry ingredients. spoon the mixture onto the prepared pan in doughnut shapes. 3. Bake 12 minutes in the preheated oven, until golden brown. Biscuits ( Taken from Betty Crocker's Recipe Book)
Ingredients 2 c. flour 1 tsp. salt 2 1/2 tsp. baking powder 2/3 c. milk 2/3 c. shortening Instructions Mix ingredients together. Knead and add flour until the dough is not sticky. Roll out dough to 1/2 inch thick. Cut into desired shape. Put on ungreased cookie sheet. Anthill Ingredients for pudding ( to represent mud ) : 1/4 c sugar 1/4 c unsweetened cocoa powder 2 T cornstarch Pinch of salt 2 c Whole Milk 1 Large Egg 4 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips Method: Whisk together sugar, cocoa powder, cornstarch, and salt in a saucepan. Gradually whisk in milk and bring to a boil, whisking constantly until pudding is thick. Remove from heat. Immediately beat the egg lightly and add in to the pudding while mixing. Pour in the chocolate chips and mix until melted and the mixture is smooth. Spoon into cups. This will make 4 half-filled cups. To make soil: You will need 4 packets of Borios cookies. Using a sealed packet of Borios, smash the cookies inside until it has been reduced to crumbs. Pour onto the pudding mixture. Sprinkle with chocolate sprinkles to represent the ants. Enjoy!!! Pumpkin Cookies 3/4 c Unsalted butter 1/2 c packed brown sugar 1 T orange zest 1/2 c solid pack pumpkin puree 1 egg yolk 1 t vanilla extract 2 1/4 c all-purpose flour 1/4 t ground cinnamon 1/4 t ground ginger 1/4 t ground nutmeg 1 pinch salt Directions: * In a medium bowl, cream the butter, brown sugar, and orange zest. Stir in the pumpkin. Add the eggs and vanilla, mix well. Sift together flour, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and salt; stir into the pumpkin mixture. Chill. * Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
* On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to 1/8 inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes and place onto an unprepared cookie sheet. Bake for 10-12 minutes . * Decorate with frosting and/or candy.
