Welcome To KGD!

Welcome To KGD!

That exciting first day of kindergarten has arrived! All of your questions, concerns and anxieties will allow our communication throughout the year to become comfortable, and very well acquainted! Our combined efforts are essential in making this a great educational and social experience for your child, and communication is the basis of our collaboration. I would like to have your email addresses and telephone numbers, and hope any future changes will be given both to me and to the office as soon as possible.

And of course we can always schedule a time to meet after school.

My email address is dshalaby@cacegypt.org and my cell phone number is 012-319-9656.

I do not answer the telephone during school hours as I see that as my time with the children. But I can be reached after school through my room telephone 2755-5221, if I am in my classroom. Messages can also be left at the Elementary Office 2755-5202.

I will be sending out group emails to keep us all informed about class activities and special events and I also send hard copies if you request one. But for right now, I’d like us to focus on a few basic things that will help our days go more smoothly.

ARRIVAL AT SCHOOL

Children should arrive at school between 7:45 and 8:00AM. KGD students go immediately to the classroom and put lunches, snacks, HW folder, and backpacks away in their cubbies. As much independence as possible is encouraged. Then it is off to the playground until 8:10, when the whistle blows and all the children line up to go back to their classroom. Separation is easier if parents do not return to the classroom after this morning playtime.

DISMISSAL FROM SCHOOL

Kindergarten students are dismissed from school at 3:00 PM. Please be on time. Children who are not picked up by 3:05 will be taken to the Elementary Office. Older siblings should not be responsible for picking up kindergartners, as they have different schedules and cannot be on time. If your child is to be picked up by a nanny or a driver, it is essential that a photo ID be sent to the classroom teacher during the first week of school.

CHANGE OF PLAN

Kindergarten students have standard pick up arrangements, which are known to both the classroom teachers and the teacher assistants. Any change in after school plans MUST BE IN WRITING. A note regarding a change should be placed in the plastic HW envelope in the morning , or a call may be made to the Elementary Office before 2:30PM. Please do not rely on email for changes of plan.

ATTENDANCE AND TARDINESS

When kindergartners arrive on time, they have a much happier day. Children are considered tardy if they arrive after 8:00AM. In cases of illness or emergency, please remember to call Elementary Office. If you do not call, the office will call you. This procedure is in place for the safety of your child. Regular and prompt attendance is critical for success in kindergarten. Many learning experiences are based on class lessons and preparations, or involve interaction with others. It is almost impossible to make up work at home.

LUNCH AND SNACK

Snack time for kindergarten children is at 9:20AM and lunchtime is at 11:20AM. If you send both lunch and snack from home, it is a good idea to put the snack in a separate container or baggie inside the lunchbox, so children know their snack from their lunch. Snack and lunch are times when children are not supposed to share, so any help with this idea would be very much appreciated. Be sure to send plenty of liquids during this hot weather, but no soda, please. USING REUSUABLE WATER BOTTLES IS HIGHLY ENCOURAGED.

Children who want to buy hot lunch should always have money in the lunch money envelopes that are provided. PLEASE, PLEASE, send the correct amount of money. Hot Lunch money envelopes are kept in their plastic HW envelopes.

PLASTIC HW ENVELOPE

Each day kindergarten children carry a plastic envelope back and forth between home and school. This is their Homework (HW) envelope in which all communications and lunch money should be placed. Hopefully the envelope will protect communications from both loss and damage.

NAMES

LABEL, LABEL, LABEL, all items that belong to your child with KGD, and your child’s name. It is incredible how much is lost during the year. We have a great Lost and Found person who does a super job getting items returned to owners - if they are labeled.

SHOES
PLEASE dress your children in shoes that they can manage independently. With our sandy playground it is essential that children can empty shoes and put them back on. Many of our activities take place on the floor, and we all have to work very hard to keep our living space comfortable and clean.

All right! I think I have covered enough basic information for now. We look forward to a productive year full of exploration, discovery and FUN! Welcome to KGD!

Sincerely,
Mrs.Dolly & Mrs. Cecilia
