Chemical Sedimentary rock
A sedimentary rock includes the evaporites(from evaporated sea water),
Limestone, calcite, halite and jasper (chert) are all examples of chemical
sedimentary rocks |
 |
| Clast are bits and pieces of other rock. Clast is always from nonliving
(inorganic) sources. |
|
Clastic sedimentary rock

|
 |
This conglomerate is a good example of a rock made
from bits and pieces of other rock |
|
| Cleavage it the
tendency of a rock or mineral to break along flat or plane surfaces. |
 |
Biotite Mica is an example of a mineral with perfect
cleavage. |
|
Contact
metamorphism occurs
locally, at and near the contacts between intruding magma and the surrounding
" host"
rock. The heat introduced
by the intrusion
controls the metamorphism. The effects of increased temperature are
most obvious where intrusions occur at shallow levels. There, the difference
in temperature between the host rock and intrusion are at a maximum. Contact
metamorphism commonly produces
fine-grained rocks called hornfels.
