Seperation Anxiety After lab

1) Consider the method you used for seperating the sand and iron from the sallt... Is there a way or order that you could change this procedure to improve your results? (Hint, would it hve been better to measure filter paper or container first, or remove another ingredient first)

2) When you measured the amount of salt you recovered, what factor might effect how accuratly you determined how much salt was in the mixture?
3) How could you have improved your accuracy of salt recovery?

4) the following were the true values (actual amounts) in chef Neff's recipe:

  • sand = 5 g
  • salt = 2 g
  • iron = 2 g
  • bean = 1.7 g

find the difference in percentage for each one of your measurements (see example to the right here)

For Example, say you got 1.3 g bean:

  • Step 1) find the difference between the true value and your value <1.7g -1.3g= 0.4g>
  • Step 2) divide the difference by the true value for bean <0.4g/1.7g = .24>
  • Step 3) multiply the results in step 2 by 100 to get percent error <.24 x 100 = 24%>

5) Now answer # 9 o0n your seperation anxiety lab.
