Sinai Trips

The Sinai ecology treks are an exciting way for students to develop and nurture an awareness, and appreciation for the natural world. When in the Sinai students soon realize that this is their classroom for a week. But this room has mountains for walls, deserts and reefs for a floor and the stars for a ceiling. The student / teacher ratio is kept at 5 to 1, allowing students to take full advantage of the attention given to them by teachers. Questions are encouraged and expected while team work prevails in safely exploring the reefs, desert terrain and mountains found in this unique and fascinating environment.

Through observation and a hands-on approach, students get involved as activists. They will seek to develop an awareness and appreciation of the ecosystem of Egypt's Red Sea and surrounding Sinai desert with an emphasis on: Coral reef formation Coexistence of animal and plant life Migration patterns of birds and fish in Egypt Seasonal variations of organisms Impact of humans on the underwater environment Future dangers to the marine and adjacent desert environments Preventative measures for reducing the deleterious effects of human impact upon the marine/desert ecosystem Political and sociological approaches to environmental protection and conservation strategies in Egypt and around the world Appreciation of Bedouin desert culture and the role that it plays in Sinai ecology.

Due to the scope of the program, students, with help and the support of their teachers, are encouraged to integrate all subject areas using the Sinai as their classroom.
