In Memory of Tushar “Tom” Zacharia
1992 – 2010
Tushar Zacharia passed away unexpectedly on the evening of June 23, 2010. Tom, as he liked to be called, was a beloved member of the CAC class of 2010, the Class Salutatorian, and this year’s recipient of the ECIS Student Award for International Understanding, which is presented to the "student who is a good representative of their own country, with a positive attitude toward the life and culture of others, able to converse in at least two languages, a contributing force in the life of the school, someone who has the ability to bring differing people together into a sense of community, and who thus furthers the cause of international understanding.” Tom met each of these criteria daily in his life.
A very popular member of the Class of 2010, Tom was a scholar, an athlete, and a leader. As a full IB student, he selected the most rigorous curriculum that the school offered and always performed at the top of his class. He was active in the school’s co-curricular program participating in Cross Country and was an influential member of the Model United Nations. An exemplary leader, Tom was this year’s president of the National Honor Society and throughout he demonstrated a commitment to understand the world around him, by serving others, and by modeling the school’s values of Respect, Integrity and Responsibility.
Always with a smile, Tom was an open, caring and loving young man. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and many friends of Tushar “Tom” Zacharia. He will be dearly missed.
Dear Cairo American College Family and Friends,
It is with great sadness that I write this note to all of you. On June 23, 2010, one of our recent graduates, Tom Zacharia, passed away in a tragic accident in his home. This news has touched all of us in the CAC community, and our thoughts and prayers go out to Tom’s family as they struggle to cope with this event.
Tom was a person who touched the lives of everyone he interacted with. His influence will always be remembered by those who knew him, and his positive energy and warmth will live on at CAC and around the world. I invite all of you to think of ways to keep Tom’s memory and contributions alive and enduring as we come together in August for the new school year.
Sincerely,
Dr. Rob Mockrish
Superintendent
