Frequently Asked Questions about CAC Admissions

Choosing a school for your child is an important decision.  To help you in this process, we have addressed those questions most frequently asked by applicants' families.  We understand that many families have other questions or concerns and would welcome the opportunity to discuss your specific circumstances.  Please call the Office of Admissions (http://www.cacegypt.org/about/admissions.html#contact) during school hours to make an appointment.

1.  How much does it cost to apply to CAC?
A nonrefundable application fee must be paid to the cashier at the time of application for admission or re-admission.  This fee is credited to Tuition upon enrollment.  For current information and further details regarding tuition and fees, please refer to http://www.cacegypt.org/about/tuition.html.

2.  Is there an application deadline?
Applications for August admission can be submitted as of February 1st, and applications are accepted for admission throughout the academic year. There is no application deadline, but due to space limitations we recommend applying well in advance to ensure there are no delays in processing the application.  Depending upon space availability, applicants may be wait-listed.

Applicants for the beginning of the school year who are available during the preceding April or May can be screened during that period, provided that vacancies are available and that applications, school records, and other required documents are submitted in advance.

3.  Are non-Americans admitted to CAC?
CAC welcomes applicants of all nationalities.  Currently over 60 nationalities are represented in the student body.

4.  Are Egyptians allowed to attend CAC?
Egyptian applicants are welcome.  The only special requirement for successful Egyptian applicants is that they provide a letter from the Egyptian Minister of Education approving their enrollment in CAC.  This letter must be submitted before the student can attend class at CAC.

5.  Are relatives of CAC students or alumni considered priority applicants?

6.  Are there any restrictions placed on applicants?
In addition to academic admissibility and prioritization of space, CAC Board policy specifies other criteria for applicants as follows: 

   * Students requiring ESL (English as a Second Language) support cannot be admitted to Grades 11 or 12.

   * The entire senior year must be completed in residence by students intending to graduate from CAC.

   * Applicants for Pre-Kindergarten must be four years old on or before September 30 to enroll.

   * Applicants for Kindergarten must be five years old on or before September 30 to enroll.

   * Applicants to the middle and high school must be deemed able to successfully satisfy CAC graduation requirements before their 20th birthday.

7.  What academic criteria must be met to be admitted to CAC?
As applicants come from a wide variety of schools and educational systems, the academic criteria for admission to CAC cannot be readily quantified.  CAC seeks to accept applicants who have been successful in their previous schools and who show promise of being successful at CAC.  Please contact the Director of Admissions should you have specific questions.

8.  What other criteria are necessary to be successful at CAC?
Three key variables for student success at CAC are:

            -Parental support and involvement,

            -Student motivation, and

            -Student organization and study skills.

9.  I have heard that sometimes students are placed in a lower grade than they attended in their previous school.  Is this true?
Every effort is made to place students in the appropriate grade based on age and academic level.  For the majority of applicants, coming from the U.S. or from U.S.-curriculum schools, there is no change of grade level. 

Applicants coming from countries in the Southern Hemisphere, where the academic calendar differs from CAC's August to June calendar, may find themselves remaining an additional semester in a grade level due to this difference.

Students requiring ESL (English as a Second Language) support might be placed in a lower grade based solely on their ESL needs, as CAC policy requires that students complete the ESL program by the end of Grade 10.

Successful completion of the Egyptian Idadiya exam is considered equivalent to completing grade 8 at CAC.

Completion of eight GCSE/IGCSE exams with results of “C” or better is considered equivalent to completing grade 10 at CAC.

10.  Can you serve children with special needs?
The services available for students with special learning needs are limited. To be admitted, students must be able to succeed within the regular academic requirements.

Because careful consideration helps everyone, school records and required forms should be submitted for consideration well in advance of your expected date of arrival.  Additionally, please contact the Director of Admissions (registrar@cacegypt.org) should you have any specific areas of interest or concern.

11. What degree do graduates earn from CAC?
All graduates from CAC earn a U.S. high school diploma recognized by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.

In addition to the U.S. high school diploma, students can pursue the International Baccalaureate Program at CAC.  Students may elect to participate in the IB program in one of two ways:

   * As a student undertaking the full IB diploma, or

   * As a student taking a package of IB certificate courses

12.  Can CAC graduates attend non-U.S. universities in Egypt and abroad?
Graduates from CAC have enrolled in colleges and universities around the world.  Our High School Counseling Center makes every effort to stay abreast of admission requirements for schools in North America, Egypt, Asia, and Europe and to help students plan their schedule of courses accordingly.
