FALL AGE GROUP SWIM TEAM 2008-09
The season extends from Oct. 8-Nov. 22, 2008.
PHILOSOPHY OF THE CAC AGE GROUP SWIM TEAM:
1. Purpose: To assist in the development of each individual to his/her maximum potential as a swimmer and community member through controlled competitive and non-competitive swimming experiences.
2. GOALS:
Provide an opportunity for all levels of competitive swimming.
Motivate through enjoyable experiences.
Parent education - involve the parents in helping to provide positive experiences for their children.
Develop an awareness of self and others.
Develop a healthy philosophy toward winning and losing.
PRE-REQUISITES TO JOIN THE TEAM:
1. Be a first grader or older by Sept. 1, 2008.
2. Be able to swim two lengths of the CAC pool using the front crawl stroke with rotary breathing.
3. Be able to swim one length of the CAC pool backstroke comfortably.
4. Be drown-proof in deep water.
5. Attend try-outs if you are a new CAC swimmer. New CAC swimmers are those who have not yet completed a swim team season at CAC.
Age groups for boys and girls are determined by swimmer's age on Sept. 1, 2008, as follows: 5&6, 7&8, 9&10, 11&12 and 13&Over.
SIGN-UPS TO JOIN AGE GROUP:
Sign-ups for old team members: Email Coach Char with your birthdate, age, grade and full name: cwebb@cacegypt.org Deadline Monday Sept. 22, 2008.
Sign-ups for new team members: Sunday and Monday Sept. 21-22 from 3:00-4:00pm at the pool. Signing up on one of these days is mandatory to secure your spot on the team. Due to anticipated large numbers of swimmers, we cannot guarantee a spot on the team after Sept. 22nd.
PRACTICES
Begin on Wednesday Oct. 8th and are held every Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, according to the following groups:
Group I: 3:15-4:00PM.Swimmers swim two days per week, either Sunday/Wednesday or Monday/Thursday. Emphasis is placed on stroke and skill development for freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly.
Group II: 4:00-5:00PM. Swimmers swim two days per week, either Sunday/Wednesday or Monday/Thrusday. Emphasis is placed on stroke refinement and drills for the four competitive strokes. Introduction to starts and turns.
Group III: 5:00-6:00PM. Swimers swim four days per week, Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Minimum of 3 days per week attendance is required. Group III is for experience competetive swimmers 10 years and older who perform all four strokes, drills, starts and turns. Emphasis is placed on stroke and advanced drill refinement, perfecting starts and turns, learning to use the pace clock, timed sets on intervals and basic endurance building.
Tryouts for Group III is required for all new and returning swimmers and will be held on Thursday Sept. 25th from 4:00-5:00PM. If you were in Group III during the past, you do NOT need to tryout!
Group IV: Practice time is from 6:00-7:45PM four days per week, Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. Swimmers are required to attend three days per week. Group IV is for middle and high school swimmers who are proficient with the four competetive strokes, drills, starts, turns and using the pace clock. Emphasis is placed on general endurance and speed work. Tryouts include timing a 500m front crawl in less than 8:45. Tryouts for Group IV on Thursday Sept. 25th from 4:00-5:00PM.
TRYOUTS:
lAll NEW swimmers are required to try out for the team:
Elementary School on Sunday Sept. 28th from 3:15-:4:30pm
Middle and High School on Monday Sept. 29th from 3:15-4:00
All swimmers who are interested in Group III or IV tryouts are scheduled for 4:00-5:00PM on Monday Sept. 29th.
Bring your suit, goggles and towel for tryout day.
SEASON SPECIAL EVENTS SCHEDULE (Tentative!)
Friday November 7 - Time Trials
Friday & Saturday Nov. 21-22 - Invitational Swim Meet
Tuesday November 25th - Awards Presentation
TEAM RULES FOR SEASON AWARDS:
Certificate of Participation - Must participate in 75% of practices during this season; participate in all swim activities and meets.
Meeting the above guidelines is a pre-requisite for each swimmer to qualify for the following awards:
Most Outstanding Swimmer - each age group (no Outstanding award for 5-6 years)
Effort Award - each age group.
Patch for first time team members.
Record breaker awards will be given to swimmers who break existing records.
