AP & IB News

Dear Parents,

We begin a new academic year with a sense of relief and excitement.  A sense of relief in that we made it through a revolution and in doing so were able to sustain a high level of continuity of student learning despite the fact that many of our high school students were evacuated for several months.  A sense of excitement at being able to celebrate the excellent performance of our students in their AP and IB examinations.   Despite our Seniors being subjected to a month off school due to Swine Flu in their Junior year and their schooling being significantly disrupted by the revolution and evacuation last year, our students achieved great results, in fact the IB scores are the best that CAC has had since 2002 when 16 students registered for the diploma.

Below is a summary of CAC’s IB results.

“Success” on an AP Exam is defined as an exam score of 3 or higher, which represents the score point that research finds predictive of college success and college graduation. These findings have held consistent across the decades. One example of such a study comes from the National Center for Educational Accountability, which found that an AP Exam score, and a score of 3 or higher in particular, is a strong predictor of a student’s ability to persist in college and earn a bachelor’s degree.

There is more detailed analysis of both our AP and IB scores available on the school Moodle sites “IB Diploma News” and “AP News and Resources”.   An access key is required for each site.  The access key for “IB Diploma News” is ib@cac, and the access key for “AP News and Resources” is ap@cac

Please check out the Moodle sites regularly as news related to the AP and IB programs will be published on them rather than the school website.
