Dear CAC Screaming Eagles, It’s with great pleasure I welcome you all to a new school year at Cairo American College. I am looking forward to the year ahead and have great anticipation and optimism for our teams and indeed our CAC Community with whom I look forward to meeting and working with during the coming months. First and foremost I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Dalia Radwan to the CAC Athletic Office. Dalia is a welcome addition and is the point person for the Athletics website, the new Sports Café monthly newsletter and the beast of all beasts CAC Athletic travel planning. For those of you new to CAC, the Athletic Office is located in the Gymnasium Building (up one flight of stairs, first door on the right). Please pop in and see us if you have any concerns or questions, or if you prefer, call Andy Roberts, the CAC Athletic Director (ext. 5416), Sara Youssef, the Athletic Office Secretary (ext. 5417), or Dalia Radwan, the Athletic Office Secretary (ext. 5428). Any concerns or questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch! In order for parents and students to have all the relevant information regarding the Athletic Program here at that CAC we use a number of avenues to communicate our information through. All information is posted on the CAC website, through our daily bulletins, and of course the new monthly sports journal, Sports Café. Please be sure to check the Sports Layout on the CAC website to find exact dates of events throughout the school year. What is CAC hosting this Year? This year CAC we will host the following tournaments/events:
Your support of these events is critical and paramount to our athletes’ sporting success. At this moment in time I must emphasize that other schools outside of Egypt are reticent to travel to CAC. As a result of this the Athletic Office is looking at invitational possibilities and local contacts to increase our competitive opportunities. Community Teams Our teams often get their best competition from “community teams.” These are groups of adults from our community that “still have it.” Generally, they are made up of teachers, alumni, and parents from the community. If you are interested in participating in a community team to play against our athletes, please contact the Athletic Office. And finally………………….. Farida Osman is the new Egyptian 50m Butterfly World Champion!
It is with a huge amount of pleasure and pride I am able to report that CAC has its very own World Champion and her name is FaridaOsman! When Farida joined CAC last year, she was already an Egyptian National and African Champion record holder. However, last week Farida participated at the 3rd FINA World Junior Swimming Championships in Lima, Peru. Amazingly, Farida was crowned world champion in the 50m Butterfly in a world record time of 26.69. With her gold medal, Farida placed Egypt for the first time in history on the medalist’s table, ranking 11th worldwide. This is the first time in Egypt’s history that anybody has achieved such an incredible feat. I have noted below Farida’s sporting pedigree and successes to date as any achievement of this nature warrants a brief biography to help give the success and achievement a context and cause for reflection. It should be noted that Farida specializes in the sprinting swimming events of 50m, 100m Butterfly, 50m, 100m Freestyle, and 50m, 100m Backstroke. Farida holds the Senior National records for all the above-mentioned eventsincluding an African record and title in the 50m Butterfly at a championship record time of 27.28. It’s an understatement to say we are privileged to have Farida representing CAC and in doing so allowing other swimmers to be inspired and to learn from her. As well as training with Coaches Sayed and Char and the CAC swim team, she is also coached by Ukrainian Coach Volodymyr Hotsu at the Gezira Sporting Club. On behalf of CAC and its community I would like to take this opportunity to offer our sincerest of congratulations to Farida and her remarkable feat. We wish you the very best of luck and many more future successes. Farida Osman, CAC salutes you! Yours Sincerely, Andy Roberts Andy Roberts
