Thanks!! A huge thank you goes out to the many people that contribute to the success of the CAC athletic program all year. Athletes, coaches, parents and the many volunteers that work tirelessly to produce the results we enjoy; with a special mention to Kerri Wethington and the Booster Club committee, as well as the CAC support staff (security, maintenance, transportation, etc.) that make hosting possible. Junior Varsity & Varsity Athletic Awards CeremonyThe end of the year Junior Varsity & Varsity Athletic Awards Ceremony will be held on Tuesday, June 3rd at 7:00 p.m. in the Theater. All of this year’s Junior Varsity and Varsity athletes and their parents should plan to attend this ceremony to honor CAC athletes. We will recognize all spring sports participants and announce the Most Valuable and Most Improved Player Awards for Junior Varsity and Varsity sports that took place in the spring season. During this ceremony, the department also announces special awards: 1. CAC Female/Male Athlete of the Year recognizes the year’s most outstanding female and male athlete. 2. CAC Female/Male Most Promising Athlete recognizes the most promising 9thor 10th grade female and male athlete. 3. Scholar Athlete awards are presented to those athletes who have participated in a minimum of two sports seasons, and in addition to excellence in athletics, have consistently maintained an outstanding academic record. 4. The Wib Smith Memorial Scholarship Award is dedicated to the memory of Wilbur “Wib” Smith, beloved coach, teacher, and Athletic Director of Cairo American College. Wib Smith lived by an ideal of excellence that was not measured by achievement or ability alone, but by the quality of the individual’s effort to achieve. In Coach Smith’s name, therefore, CAC honors those graduating senior athletes who demonstrate through fair play and team spirit the willingness to learn and the desire and determination to excel. The awards ceremony will be in a formal setting and gives the athletes an opportunity to say good-bye to their teammates and gives all of us the opportunity to support each other’s accomplishments. We will say our farewells to the departing coaches and honor the efforts of super volunteers. Please join us in the theater for this very special night. Note: The Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year award was presented at the High School Recognition Night on Tuesday, May 20th.
