LUNCH MONEY – we need your help!
We have too many students requesting to borrow money from the office each day – especially on Pizza Day. Please make sure your child comes prepared to school with a healthy snack and lunch or lunch money/ticket. If your child has borrowed money, please return it to the ES office on the next day.

PRINCIPAL'S NOTE
Hello Everyone,
Our elementary students were out in full force on Tuesday to watch the “Digging the Dream” ceremony otherwise known as the Official Ground Breaking for our new elementary school. Seven students, one to represent each of the grade levels within our elementary community, were selected through a random draw to participate in this historical CAC event and threw out the first shovels full of earth. Equipment with hard hats and t-shirts which read “I Dig CAC”, our elementary students along with three middle school students and our high school Student Council President represented our student body in the kick off to the construction of our new elementary home. See pictures below.
Next week on our ES calendar is truly featuring the fine arts in our elementary school. We are hosting our 62nd Annual Elementary Art Show, which is a fantastic display of student work and definitely worth a visit. Be sure to stop by Room 600 from Monday to Wednesday to soak up the brilliance and fun of our budding young artists. In addition, our Grade 2 and 3 students will be featured as they perform in their annual music concert. A combined performance will be held on Tuesday, May 13, and separate evening concerts will be held on Tuesday night for grade 2 and Wednesday evening for Grade 3. Both evening performances begin at 7:00 p.m. and will be held in the Theatre. A “must attend” for parents and families of grade 2 and 3 students and all community members who enjoy music by young performers.
We would like to remind everyone of our “Share the Gift of Reading” book drive. Our goal is 500 books by May 15 and our drop-off box is in front of the ES Office. Please help us help an English-speaking refugee school in Cairo with your donation of “gently used” children’s books.
As a final note I would like to wish all the mothers in our school community a Happy Mother’s Day. I hope you all have a precious time with your families this weekend. Enjoy the extra attention and pampered status – you deserve it!!
Thank you for another terrific week at CAC Elementary!
Regards,

LET’S LEAVE GENTLE FOOTPRINTS ON OUR PLANET |

Let's take a lesson from the students in 1H class. They wanted to do something to reduce waste in our lunchroom and so they have decided to bring metal forks and spoons to eat with. Each day, it will be someone's job to wash these utensils. Three cheers for our grade one environmentalists. Think about how this example can inspire you to change one thing to reduce waste today.

LOOKING FOR AN OPPORTUNITY TO FEEL NEEDED AND APPRECIATED?
We need a BAKER BOOK VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR for the 08-09 school year. This job takes just a few days in the fall and again in the spring. It is the "glue" that keeps the Baker Book opportunity of new quality books available to our students and families! We need an energetic person to collate all of the classroom orders, count the cash, and coordinate parent volunteers from classrooms to help with this process. It is a rewarding job and much appreciated by teachers, students, and parents! Think about it and give Mrs. Neff a call if you are willing to give it a try. You will be glad you did!

Grade 5 Program of Studies & Exploration Selection Card
This Thursday, May 8, students in Grades 5, 6 and 7 received the 2008-2009 Program of Studies and the Exploration Selection Card. The Counselors explained how the card is to be completed and answered any questions the students had regarding the exploration choices. The course selection card is due back to the guidance office by May 11. Cards received later than May 11 will be marked as “late”. It is important that the card is returned on time. We are looking forward to this information so we can begin the scheduling process for 2008-09. If you have any questions, please contact the Middle School.

Elementary Earth Day Assembly Songs
Many folks have asked and Jeff Harding has offered us this information about the songs he played for us in the Earth Day Assembly. Thanks, Jeff! Both songs are done by a duo called Magpie.
"Shut off the Water" is on a CD called "Circle of Life."
"We belong to the Earth" is on a CD called "Seed on the Prairie."
They are available from Amazon.com and other music outlets.

Give the Gift of Reading!
There are two book drives happening on campus. Give to one or both! Here is the difference:
The high school drive is for the National Honor Society book sale (May 16) and that box is the big one in the entry of the school's front gate. It is clearly labeled with NHS signs on it.
The elementary drive is for the Sudanese school and that box is our smaller blue box located right across from the elementary office. It is also clearly labeled with "Give a Gift of Reading" signs on it. There is also a big "thermometer" above the box which will illustrate each day how many books have come in.

From the Music Department...
Dear parents/guardians of second and third grade students,
Please, take the opportunity to enjoy some of the pieces your child has been working on during music this year and attend his/her upcoming concert. Three programs will be presented in the CAC Theater:
•Tuesday, May 13th at 10:00 a.m. Both Second and Third grade classes will perform.
•Tuesday, May 13th at 7:00 p.m. Second grade will perform. Students should be in place by 6:50 p.m.
Friends and family are encouraged to attend.
•Wednesday, May 14th at 7:00 p.m. Third grade will perform. Students should be in place by 6:50 p.m. Friends and family are encouraged to attend.
The evening concert split was necessitated by the limited seating in the theater. Your child will be expected to attend both the morning and the evening concert due to special instrument/movement assignments. Also, this is when your child’s behavior and participation are evaluated in a concert setting.
As this is a very special event, please be sure your child is dressed appropriately for the evening concert; girls can wear dresses or skirts, which are knee-length or below, and boys can wear dress slacks, dress shirt and tie, or a shirt with a collar. If possible, please try to avoid blue jeans, T-shirts with pictures/advertising, or tennis shoes. Attire for the morning concert can be more casual as students will have recess and maybe PE during the day.
The words and form of each song will be handed out next week so that your child can review and memorize the pieces. Knowing this material will help alleviate her/his stress during the performances. Another stress reliever will be punctuality. Please ensure that your child is at the theater on time before the evening concert. You will want to arrive early as well so you can get a good seat!
If you have any questions or concerns, please send an email to our school addresses: rnerenha@cacegypt.org or ewolden@cacegypt.org
Sincerely,
Rebecca Nerenhausen and Liz Wolden

08-09 calendar
Next year's calendar of events is now online! You can access the calendar from the CAC webpage by clicking on the Events Calendar link in the menu on the left side of the screen. This link will take you directly to the condensed version of our calendar which highlights the important punctuation marks in the school year - Parent Teacher Conference Days, Early Release Days, and of course, the Holidays. From this page there is also a link that will take you to the detailed monthly calendar of events. This is an interactive document that allows you to filter events and customize the calendar view to meet your personal planning needs.
Happy surfing and an early welcome to the 2008/2009 school year.

LOST AND FOUND
Time is getting short – soon it will be the end of the year. Please check “Lost & Found” regularly for missing clothing, items such as: swim bags, lunch bags and water bottles, plastic food containers, prescription glasses and sunglasses, caps, sweaters and jackets (all sizes), goalie gloves, scooter, sport shoes, watches, mobiles, and battery for digital camera (Panasonic).
Parents, labeling your child's belongings insures that it won't remain in the Lost and Found for long. Labeled items are easily returned to their owners. Please note that any remaining items will be donated to orphanages by the end of the school year.

ELEMENTARY MEMORY BOOK ORDERS
We are still accepting orders for the elementary Memory Book. The book includes a CD of many more photos taken throughout the school year. The cost is 180 LE. Get them while they last! We have limited numbers. Please visit the school store to make your order. Books will be delivered during the last week of school. If you are leaving before the end of school, you can place your book order and arrange for someone to pick it up or mail it to you.

Moving on from CAC?
In order to help CAC plan for the school year 2008/2009, please inform the Registrar’s Office if your student(s) will be withdrawing from CAC at or before the end of the current school year. Please do so by calling 755-5507/08 or e-mailing withdrawal@cacegypt.org
Thank you for your cooperation.
