PRINCIPAL'S NOTE
Hello Everyone,
We are entering our last week of school and with that our last edition of the Elementary Express. August 2008 and our back-to-school information really does not seem that long ago. We have had an absolutely fabulous year within the elementary school, and our success has definitely been a community effort.
Our satisfaction survey results indicate that 94% of elementary parents who responded to the survey agree to strongly agree that CAC is committed to the welfare of your children. In addition, 95% of ES respondents agree to strongly agree that their child demonstrates a love of learning. Finally, 90% of parents report that teachers and parents have a trusting relationship. How fabulous is that! This goes to show that we definitely have the winning combination of great students, talented, dedicated teachers, and truly supportive and committed parents. Educational research has proven again and again that these are key ingredients in all successful and effective schools.
I wish to extend our thanks to all of you for your support of your children on their educational journey through elementary school. Your support and assistance with homework, projects, times curled up reading a great book together, attendance at special events, parent conferences, class plays and concerts makes such a difference in your child’s life and development. So keep up the great work!
As you are aware, over the past two weeks we have highlighted the teachers and support staff who are leaving our elementary community—Aroma Pannu, Brigitte Hudson, Ellen Youssif, Fran Larson, Genefer Ashley, Hoda El Bakary, Mary Miller, Nadia Rashad & Pat Zimmerman. We extend our gratitude and sincere thanks for your work and numerous contributions to our CAC community. You have all, in your individual ways, made a difference and will be missed. Best wishes from all of us.
We have all worked hard this year and it’s now time to take a well-earned break. Wherever the summer breezes may take you, I hope you have a family fun-filled holiday. To those families that are leaving CAC, we wish you all the best and we hope your memories of your time at CAC will be forever cherished.
To our returning families, we look forward to welcoming all of you back to CAC on Sunday, August 16. A complete outline of back-to-school information will be included with report cards and is also available on the elementary page of our CAC website. Our new and returning parent orientation will be held during the morning of August 16, beginning at 8:30, so make plans now to attend.
Our last day of school will be Wednesday, June 3. This is a half day with dismissal at 11:30 a.m. We will have an elementary final assembly in the gym from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. You are more than welcome to attend should you wish.
Have a great summer, everyone. Safe travels and thanks again for a terrific year!
Regards,
Seamus Marriott

Finished With Your CAC Telephone Directory?
One of our parents recently saw a current CAC Phone Directory being carted away by a young trash collector. As you know, this publication has a great deal of data in it - names, email addresses, phone numbers, and student grade levels. It is hugely valuable to all of us throughout the year, but it is not meant for the greater public. If you are not going to keep your copy, we ask that you please shred or tear the pages in your Directory rather than toss it into the trash intact. Thank you.

To my CAC family,
I do not know where to begin. Working and living here in Egypt for the last five years has been an essential part of my growth personally and professionally. I had a rigorous school for my own children to flourish in. I had students that were enthusiastic about learning. I had parents that were supportive. I had outstanding professional colleagues that I learned from every day and who will be my friends forever. I had a place to share my passion for peace. My heart is filled with gratitude for every connection I have made. CAC will always be in my heart.
~Peace~

“All things have their season: and a season for every purpose under heaven.” My Egyptian season is quickly coming to an end after 13 years, where the most fabulous memories have seeped into my pores, never to be forgotten. There are way too many wonderful things to list but the old saying, “Wherever you are, it is the people who make your world” has been so true here. Thank you for filling my Egyptian world with rich experiences and happy times. Until we meet again…ma’asalama.

Announcements
Health office news
Many elementary students have incomplete health records. This includes annual update forms, physicals, and immunization information. According to Board policy, all students need complete records in order for us to care for your student in school. Physicals need to be completed for all new students as well as those in grades pre-kindergarten, 1, 3, and 5. The Health Office has contacted all students who have outstanding records. The principal’s office will be contacting you if your child’s records are incomplete.

OVERDUE LIBRARY REMINDER
With the school year ending soon and report cards being sent home June 3, we would like to point out the section in our Parents’ Handbook regarding overdue library materials (page 15). Any student with overdue library materials WILL NOT receive his/her report card until library items are either returned or reimbursed through the cashier.

LIBRARY NEWS
-- Summer Borrowing --
By now ALL library items should be returned since everything was due a week ago. Please see Ms. Ann about any items that are lost. We want to avoid holding any report cards at the end of the year.
Summer borrowing starts in two days from Saturday, May 30, and lasts for five days until Wednesday, June 3. On Saturday we are open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Registration forms for Summer Borrowing have been sent home with students in Pre-kindergarten through grade 2 (look for a blue half-sheet of paper). Students in 3rd and 4th grade can pick up a registration form during their library period or after school. Current 5th graders are considered middle schoolers and do not need to fill out a form.
Here are the Summer Checkout Facts:
-- All library items from the school year need to be returned before summer borrowing.
-- Summer Borrowing is only for students and parents returning to CAC in August ’09.
-- Any lost or damaged library items need to be replaced or paid for before summer borrowing.
-- You may checkout up to 25 books or magazines for the summer (using the rule of borrowing only 3 books by the same author, 3 magazines of the same title, and 3 graphic novels of the same series).
-- No DVD’s, videos or audio books will be available for borrowing over the summer.
Summer reading lists of suggested books will be coming home in report cards and are available on the CAC web site on the library page.
Happy reading,
Ms. Ann, Mrs. Nour, Ms. Lynn and Ms. Sophie

AFTER-SCHOOL STRINGS & COMMUNITY ORCHESTRA CONCERT
Please join us for our final musical celebration of the year this Saturday, May 30, at 2:00 p.m. in the CAC Theater. Sign-ups for next year’s string lessons and Community Orchestra will be August 24 after school at CAC.

Eagle Scout Service Project
David Williamson is looking to collect for his eagle scout project gently used clothes to donate to Refuge Egypt, an organization aimed at helping thousands of refugees here in Cairo. The donation box can be found at CAC's front gate and all donations will be gladly accepted. It is requested that all clothes please be washed and bagged before donation. Though all contributions are welcome, children's clothing and sports equipment are ESPECIALLY desired. Cardboard boxes needed for transporting the donated items will also be happily accepted. For more details, feel free to contact David at 016-473-3160.

LAST CHANCE TO BUY THIS YEAR!!!!
Do you need a graduation gift? A gift for grandma this summer? Last day this year to buy is Monday, June 1, at the front gate at 3:00 p.m. Come take advantage of the recent markdowns on merchandise. For example, note cards at 10 LE a pack—great for graduation thank-you notes! Or CAC Christmas ornaments at 50% off and other great deals! Also selling all candy from concessions (always popular and goes fast). See you at the front gate, Monday, June 1, at 3:00 p.m. After-Prom Committee wants to thank you for an awesome year and wish you a very happy, fun-filled summer.

CONGRATULATIONS, ASIA RINEHART!
This last weekend during the CAC Spring Age Group Swim Invitational, Asia Rinehart (1S) broke the 25m backstroke record for the 6-and-under girls. The record was long standing, set in 1992 by Christina Keeny with a time of 27.84. Asia's new record is 27.23. WAY TO SWIM, ASIA!!
