PRINCIPAL'S NOTE

In Mr. Marriott’s absence and honor, I will try my hand at rhyming lines. Mr. Marriott can spit out rhyming poetry quick and slick. For me, it takes a bit more time and tasking to even try such a trick.

A Week without Mr. M (A Poetry Work in Progress)

Off to Borneo, Off to Borneo
Mr. Marriott had to go.

His new school he was off to seek,
So that he may take a preview peek.

About his next life and work is what he wanted to know
And meet-greet his soon-to-be students, teachers and parents with a nice hello.

We just hope that he does not bring back an orangutan
For customs officials will surely give him a harangue.

Cairo is a place for a beast like that, no!
But it is, for now, the place for Mr. Marriott, so…

We wish him a safe journey kilometer after mile
For this CAC is not the same without his jolly bantering and smile.

As Mr. Marriott mentioned in last week’s EE, he has spent this week visiting his new school in Balikpapan, Borneo. The purpose of his visit is to have a little orientation to the school before he lands there in August to start his job.  Our hope is that he finds the community there just as warm and welcoming as it is here.

Though we love, love, love celebrations of learning like fifth grade innovation fairs and the festivity and fun in Kid’s Day as well as the other bits of monumental educational merriment that has happened over the weeks that have lead us to this date, it was wonderful this week to just be in our classrooms and at work. Of course, students are all working hard to learn all they can and dazzle you with our next big displays of community and acquired knowledge and skills.

One of these big displays will be in the form of student work presented to parents at parent-teacher conferences. The teachers have put much love and labor into completing report cards and preparing for conferences with parents. Report cards will be distributed via the “Backpack Express” on Tuesday, March 16. Conferences will be held on Thursday, March 18. This is a great opportunity for us to examine who your child has (and is continuing to) become as a learner.  It is only by working together that we can best ensure their emotional/social and academic success.

The PTO will surely see great success in community building and the deepening of our cultural awareness and understanding while they feed us great international foods,

dazzle our eyes with traditional costume from various countries and entertain us with displays from many lands. This is the event of the year where CAC’s diversity is fully and dramatically on display.  Of course, this display will be all the more full and all the more dramatic if we all attend the International Festivak on March 20, from 11:00 am-3:00 p.m.

I want to state again the need for our Admissions Department to know if your family is planning to move, thus leaving CAC. They are currently fervently processing applications for next school year and need to know how many positions CAC will have open to fill.

Whew! It is getting warmer! Ms. Angie in the Heath Office has brought to our attention all that needs attending to as it begins to heat up in Maadi. Even a few degrees rise in temperature greatly increases our need for proper hydration. As always, sun protection is a must. She also points out that warm weather does not mean that colds and flu are done and over. Wash, wash, wash those hands! Stay hydrated, sun-safe and all around healthy!

Have a great weekend! We hope to see you at the International Fair on Saturday!

Regards,
Marci Carrel

Ms. Carrel’s Special Rhyme Challenge:
Help me to write a better poem about Mr. Marriott being away. What rhymes with “orangutan?” There is bang, hang, sprang, meringue, sang, twang, fang, harangue, gang, shebang, pang or slang. If you can bring another word or set of words to the ES Office on Sunday, I will give you a “thank you” treat. Rhyme away!

NOTICE FROM OUR BUSINESS MANAGER

We Need Your Help with Student Drop-Off and Pick-Up
Thank you for helping us keep children safe during drop off and pick up.  For those new to CAC and as a gentle reminder, please follow the guidelines below so that we can work together for a smoother and more efficient experience.

  • When you or your drivers are dropping off your child/ren, please have them prepared to get out of the car as quickly as possible.
  • After dropping off, move forward immediately to avoid additional delay.
  • The passing lane is intended to be in constant flow.  Please do not stop in the passing lane to pick-up or drop-off.  It is very dangerous for children to cross traffic between cars.

Thank you for your cooperation and support.  Let’s all work together to ensure a safe and efficient drop-off and pick-up of your child/ren.

Health Tips:

We are heading into our warm weather season and time for some Spring/Summertime reminders. Remember to:

1) Drink, drink, drink!  Our bodies dehydrate quickly with the arrival of higher temperatures.
2) Wear sunscreen every day.
3) Wear a hat and sunglasses to protect your head and your eyes.
4) Dress appropriately. Layer your clothing so you are warm on the cool mornings but able to shed that outer sweater when the temperature rises throughout the day.

We have also recently seen an increase in students who are not eating breakfast prior to coming to school. Breakfast has been proven over and over to be the most important meal of the day, especially for young growing bodies. Please remember to eat breakfast!

We are almost through the cold and flu season, but hygiene protocols continue throughout the year. Protocols include washing hands frequently, especially prior to eating. Cover your mouth and nose, with the curve of your arm, when sneezing or coughing. Stay home if you are ill.

Gentle Footsteps

What's the largest contributor to air pollution in the world?

Cars!

Fossil fuel combustion, particularly as it occurs in motor vehicles, has been identified as the LARGEST contributor to air pollution in the WORLD.

How can you help?

Walk, carpool, or take the bus to school. Less carbon emissions and less smog come from less burned fuel. We have to use gasoline or diesel to run most of today's cars--so, let's use as little of it as we can! When you share a ride with others, it means fewer people have to use gas; and when you walk or bike, there is no fuel burned at all...except maybe your breakfast!
