Successful High School Musical “Grease” We wish to thank all those who were involved in this year’s high school musical “Grease”. The performances were well attended, and quality of the show was very much appreciated. We wish to thank all the students, parents, faculty, and staff who supported this production and helped make it a success. THIMUN Conference 2010 Last week, CAC students traveled to The Hague to attend the 42nd annual THIMUN conference. This is the largest and most prestigious Model United Nations Conference in the world, and it attracts over 3,000 students. Congratulations to all for a successful THIMUN Conference. Week Without Walls Parents Pre-Travel Meetings –February 10 On Wednesday, February 10 from 5:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m., we will hold very important parent sessions before the start of the Week Without Walls courses. We highly encourage all high school parents and students to attend these meetings. At these information sessions, parents will receive pertinent information about their child’s particular WWW course as well as have an opportunity to ask any questions. The rooms where each WWW course meets will be listed on bulletin boards around the school. Quarter 3 POLAR Updates – February 11 POLAR Updates (progress reports) for Quarter 3 are approaching, and you can check your child’s progress on POLAR from 3:00 p.m. onwards on Thursday, February 11. We encourage you to go to POLAR and check your son or daughter’s progress regularly throughout the semester. Digla Dash Event – February 12 On Friday, February 12, the annual Mike Ross Digla Dash event takes place. This is an opportunity to raise money for charity by walking/running in Wadi Digla. It’s a family-friendly, fun and healthy activity for the weekend, and we hope that all members of our CAC community will get involved and support the event. There is a 2.5 kilometer course for younger children and a 5 and 10 kilometer course for older students and adults with a start-time of 11:00 a.m. at the race site (buses depart from the CAC front gates at 10 a.m.). Registration forms can be completed by visiting the CAC website, or you can call the Athletics Office at 2755-5417 for more information. Cirque du CAC Talent Show – February 12 The Class of 2012 is hosting the 2010 Talent Show “Cirque du CAC” that takes place on Friday, February 12 starting at 7:00 p.m. in the theater. Tickets are LE 25 if purchased before the event or LE 30 at the door. Come and support the many talented students who will be performing at this year’s high school talent show! School on February 14 Sunday, February 14 is a regular school day (1ABCD day). This day was to be a professional development day for teachers and no school for students, but this has changed. Please ensure that your child attends school as per usual on this day. Choir Concert – February 15 The Middle School/High School Choir Concert will take place on Monday, February 15 starting at 7:00 p.m. in the theater. You will have the chance to hear the various choir groups at CAC, and we hope that you will take the time to come and support this choir performance at our school. International Mother Language Week – February 21 - 24 International Mother Language Day was proclaimed by UNESCO's General Conference in November 1999. The International Day has been observed every year since February 2000 to promote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism. Languages are the most powerful instruments of preserving and developing our tangible and intangible heritage. All moves to promote the dissemination of mother tongues will serve not only to encourage linguistic diversity and multilingual education but also to develop a better awareness of linguistic and cultural traditions throughout the world and to inspire solidarity based on understanding, tolerance and dialogue. At CAC, we will be celebrating this event from February 21 to 24, and there will be a variety of activities taking place inside and outside the classroom. Band and Strings Concert – February 22 Come and join us at the Middle School/High School Band and Strings Concert that will take place on Monday, February 22 starting at 7:00 p.m. in the theater. This is an opportunity to hear the various bands and strings groups at CAC, and we look forward to seeing you there. IB Informational Night – February 23 There will be in International Baccalaureate Information Night on Tuesday, February 23 starting at 7:00 p.m. in the high school Gallery (ending at approximately 8:30 p.m.). This meeting is open for everyone who is interested to learn more about the IB program at Cairo American College and who has specific questions about the program. You will also have the chance to meet the new IB Coordinator, Mr. Steve Petra. We look forward to seeing you there. CAC Holiday – February 25 Please mark on your calendars that Thursday, February 25 is a CAC Holiday, and there will be no school on this day. Week Without Walls! – February 25 to March 5 Week Without Walls takes place from the afternoon of February 25 to March 5 (which includes travel days), and we are prepared for this special week! Please help your child prepare for any last minute items. Please note that the point person for all parents during Week Without Walls is Rob DeWolf and he can be reached on his cell phone at 012-313-9785 or via email at rdewolf@cacegypt.org. When Rob hears from chaperones on out-of-Cairo courses, he will send emails to parents informing them of news and updates. If you have any questions about any aspect of Week Without Walls, please contact one of the chaperones on your child’s course or contact the high school administration office.

PTO Garage Sale - Saturday, February 20, 10am-2pm! -- An opportunity to sell your "cherished" and "gently used" belongings to others! This is an annual event which provides CAC community members with an easy and organized way to participate with others in a group garage sale! Please note the details: GARAGE SALE @ Cairo American Softball League (CASL) parking lot -- @ Victory College Table registration: please call Samia Wadman (012 103 7880) or Kum How (010 338 8976) Table price: LE 150 Registration and ticket sales at school-- starts on 7 Feb 2010 from 2:45 pm - 3:30 pm. Susan Thomas PTO International Fair - Theme Basket Raffle - The PTO will be holding an International Fair on Saturday, 20th March, 2010. One of the attractions will be a Theme Basket Raffle which will raise money to fund specific projects to benefit our school as well as a percentage being donated to charity. Collection of Donations– The High School has a collection point in theHSCommunity Service Room (Mrs. Mazhar`s room 201) but donations will also be received in the PTO room (above the ID office). These will be in place from 21st February running through to the 11th March. The High School has been allocated two themes (as noted below) and you may choose individually which theme you wish to donate to. Alternatively if you wish to donate a basket for displaying the donations or a monetary contribution this would also be very gratefully accepted. Thereafter the baskets will be put together on 16th March and 17th March - if you would like to come along with your ribbons and creative hats on, all volunteers are very welcome.
