Dear Parents,

Thank you for reading this week’s edition of the Middle School News and Views. With only two weeks to go before the Winter Break, we will continue to keep your children busy and engaged both inside and outside of the classroom. Highlights for Middle School students this week include:

Every year, 6th graders participate in a service project with the Maadi community, to provide Christmas gifts for the students at the African Hope Learning Center. As a way of getting into the spirit of ‘giving back’. This week, our 6th-grade students completed another step in their service-learning project. This project aims to help the less fortunate students from The African Hope School. The goal is to both help the refugees, and to also help our children become aware that one of the secrets of life is that all that is really worth doing is what we do for others.

The MS/HS Strings, Choir, and Band students gave a  lively performance on Wednesday to an incredible audience in the theater. Mr. McCuaig, Ms. Pascale and Mrs. Jeong along with our students, provided us with incredibly beautiful music! The energy in the theater was vibrant and the students were having a great time, singing and playing their instruments. Our students seem to be taking pride in what they were doing because they had a voice in the selection of the music they sang and played with the band. When learning is fun, there is no telling what students will produce.

In the upcoming week, STUCO will be hosting a Winter Social on Thursday, December 13th from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. We hope to see many students turn up for this event, which we know will be a festive celebration before the Winter Break. I would appreciate it very much if parents and students remember that a large amount of time and effort goes into these events, and they are put on the calendar well in advance to make it easier for those who want to join us. Please try to plan accordingly so that you can be a part of the Winter Social.

Thanks in advance for your support of a Middle School shared experience.

In Partnership,
Courtney Bailey

Middle School Principal

Spring Break Ski/Snowboard Trip

Mr. Miller is coordinating a ski & snowboarding trip for Spring Break, March 15th through March 22nd.  We have reserved a trip to Passo Tonale, Italy, which is forecast to have a great snow season this year.  The resort has over 30 lifts and over 100km of ski runs, with a wide variety from absolute beginner to quite advanced.  Snowtraxx, with whom we have worked before, do a great job running the trip for us, with fun counselors, lessons, and evening activities.

Total expense will depend on the number of students who go (minimum 16 this year!) and final airfare prices, but is expected to be about $2000 including airfare.  If you are interested, please fill out this form (

The Maadi Basketball Association (MBA)

The MBA is a basketball league for children in the Maadi community. The MBA is open to children from age 5 through 15, and is played at the Cairo American College gyms and outside basketball court. The season runs from January 14th through March 16th. We have one practice during the week (evenings) and a game on Saturday.

Registration is now open. Here is the link to register for the league:

Parents, please consider supporting the league by being a coordinator, coach, or team parent. Parents who coach a team (head coach) will have their fee waived. For more information, contact the MBA Coordinator, Monte Davis, at:

CAC Holiday Tree

Days are getting shorter, the nights are longer and there is that unmistakable chill in the air. The season of giving is upon us! As Eagles “we come from many places, and we have a lot to give”, so Booster Club is inviting everyone to get into the spirit of the season!

Help decorate the CAC Christmas Tree that will be up beginning Sunday, Dec. 9. Bring an ornament (ES students will make their ornaments in Art Class) that represents you or where you come from, maximum 10cm diameter, and hang it on the tree. Parents, bring your ornament and join us on Sunday right after drop off at 8am to kickstart decorating the tree. Students and CAC staff, please watch
for announcements of when your group is scheduled to go.

There will be two collection boxes by the tree, one for donations of new school and art supplies, and another for donations of new socks. Your generosity will go a long way in putting smiles on children’s faces. Drop your gifts (unwrapped) in these boxes beginning Wednesday, Dec. 12 until Dec.19.

Let’s come together as a community to help spread goodwill within and beyond our CAC walls! Happy holidays to all!
