Photography


Description: This course is designed for students interested in exploring the most contemporary and influential art form today. Photography offers students the opportunity to learn about shooting and developing quality black and white art photographs. In the first semester subjects such as photographic vocabulary, camera mechanics, film developing, enlarging, various darkroom techniques, print mounting and finishing are introduced. The second semester is a continued exploration of the art photo with emphasis on composition, touch-up, chemical toning, hand-coloring, studio and darkroom techniques such as photomontage, bas-relief, solarization, altered surfaces, mixed media and computer enhancement. Mandatory field trips will be taken, generally on per quarter, to places such as the old city of Cairo, the pyramids, the zoo or other places of photographic interest.

Prerequisites:
Students entering second semester must have previous high school photography experience.
Recommendations:
Students must provide their own 35MM (Single Lens Reflex) camera.

*Due to the high cost of film, paper, and chemicals, students will be required to pay a studio fee and also purchase notebooks/materials/tools at their own expense.
