Choi Kwang Do"Choi Kwang Do... works both the mind and the body--the ideal 21st century exercise!" -Kwang Jo Choin Tenents Choi Kwang-Do is based on traditional martial arts philosophy that emphasizes the ideal of personal and social development being paramount, rather than sports competition. The development of good manners, courtesy, self-discipline, self-confidence, and good social adjustment can be considered primary objectives of this art, along with self-defense. Choi Kwang Do is a unique martial art is developed to promote health, fitness and self defense. This is one of the most modern martial arts and it draws heavily from Tae Kwang Do. The style relies more on flexibility and fluidity of movements as opposed to the more rigid lines of Tae Kwon Do. To achieve this Choi Kwang Do combines yoga-based stretching with more modern approach to self-defense movements.
The system is meant for all individuals who want to learn real-life, practical self-defense skills and achieve a greater level of health and well being, not people of which are solely interested in winning trophies.
HistoryChoi Kwang Do was founded by master Kwang Jo Choi in 1987, it is considered one of the most modern martial arts. The name Choi Kwang Do comes from the name of the master as you would notice, "Kwang Jo Choi" but Do didnt, Do means the way and is used in most of the martial arts. Master Kwang Jo Choi was born in South Korea and then imigrated to Canado. Master Choi was a Tae Kwon Do trainer and practitioner, but this was before he establishedd his own martial art. While Master Choi was still in Malaysia teaching and demonstrating Tae Kwon Do, he claimed that he got severely injured to the point of which he was not able to continue his teachings. This then lead to Master Choi leaving Malaysia and going to the Western World in hope of finding doctors tat would be able to help with his injuries. Determining that the injuries were caused by the style of martial arts which he was performing, he undertook rehabilitative exercises, attended various seminars and studied techniques for rehabilitation. Choi claims that he incorporated these techniques into his own fighting style, and from that he developed Choi Kwang Do. Today, Choi Kwang-Do is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, and is taught in over 70 countries including the United Kingdom with schools in England, Scotland and Wales.
