Wing Chun

Wing Chun is a fighting style that originated in the 5th century. The style was developed by Yim Wing Chun who passed her methods to further generations. Yim Wing Chun first learned Kung Fu in order to defeat an officer who intended to force her to marry him. She defeated the man in combat and stated that she was unfit for him if she could defeat him. After this the officer captured her father and killed him. Yim Wing Chun later married Leung Bok Chau and they developed the Wing Chun technique together.

Wing Chun divides each teachings into three categories external force, combat techniques, and internal force. The training attempts to unite the three parts of a person: physical, energetic, and mental. The basic foundation of the style is quick movements from a balanced position. Also the technique confuses the opponent in making it unclear where one will attack from. The technique also allows one to defend with constant sweeps leaving no part of oneself open to attack. The techniques also include weapons at higher levels. Wing Chun focuses on becoming relaxed and not wasting movement. The teachings also focus on economy of motion. An imaginary center line of oneself is important. Wing Chun teaches that one much completely defend their centerline.
