FROM THE DIRECTOR......
This year the Intermediate Acting class have studied realism with Stanislavsky; worked with issues based theatre and Boal; studied the vast ranges of styles and companies that are Physical theatre; worked with Medieval theatre techniques and performed on wagons, in a proscenium arch theatre and on a promenade stage. They have performed sections of plays from such playwrights as Tennessee Williams, Bernard Shaw, Willy Russell and Aristophanes. But, for this final performance they have decided to do none of those!
The class is drawing on all their skills as performers and theatre makers to bring you some short comedies. To perform these plays for you they have worked on character development, text analysis, space work, directing skills, group dynamics, stage business and all aspects of technical theatre.
This one year course is assessed, but they still approach them with genuine passion and commitment, as they all care about the medium that is theatre, and aim to bring joy and laughter to their audiences, while they simultaneously enjoy the process.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE PLAY AND THE PLAYWRIGHT
'Confusions' is a series of five interconnected comic one-act plays. The Intermediate Acting class will perform 4 out of the 5 plays. They are all loosely linked by characters or locations, but more subtly through the common underlying themes of obsession, isolation and the basic desire for companionship.
Alan Ayckbourn is one of the most prolific and widely performed of English language playwrights and a highly regarded theatre director. Since 1972, he has been the Artistic Director of the Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough, England, where he has premiered the majority of his work.
He has written 71 full length plays, more than half of which have gone on to London's West End. He has directed more than 300 plays, including the West End premieres of the majority of his plays, and also ran his own company at the National Theatre. He is an Olivier and Moliere Award winning playwright whose plays have achieved success throughout the world.
As an audience we are invited to become eavesdroppers on people and situations, which are carefully orchestrated with delicate theatrical ingenuity. These painstakingly created suburban problems displayed on the stage for our benefit thus take on a greater significance. They are Hamlet's "mirror held up to nature" reflecting, through comedy and farce, the often tragic undertones of our contemporary society.
We hope that you will enjoy these plays.
