Course Description
Symphonic Band is a music course designed to improve the individual skills of tone and technique in students and further develop performance and ensemble skills. The class will also introduce students to various aspects of music theory, history, and ear training. All students in this class should have at least two years of instruction on their instrument as a prerequisite, or permission of the band director.
Course Aims
- Improve Music Literacy
- Develop tone, technique, intonation, and expression
- Broaden knowledge of history of Western music and concert band literature
- Perform solo (or small ensemble) and full-ensemble concerts
- Develop reviewing skills for live and recorded music
- Improve reading and sight reading skills
- Develop self discipline in the preparation of music
