IB Theatre Arts
This course is one year of a two-year IB program (students that wish to do the SL course in one year will need the approval of the IB Theatre Arts teacher and IB coordinator) intended for students who wish to further develop their skills in theater production, acting techniques, explore the theories and methodologies of world theatre practitioners and research theater history. In addition, the emphasis is on the development of the portfolio, critical voice and an autonomous and informed directorial approach to theatre. Performance and production analysis and directing are also required parts of the course. Over the 2 year course up to 4 world texts and practitioners are studied in depth - two each year.
Please note that all IB Theatre Arts courses are taught in the same lesson - first and second year HL and SL. An ensemble is needed for this class to carry out all practical work.
Intermediate/Advanced Acting
This course is for students who have completed a beginning drama course, come from another drama program, or would like to start acting regardless of what grade they are in at present. This course will emphasize ensemble, individual acting techniques and group directing and scene creation. Performance and technical theatre work are required parts of this course. The methodologies of theatre practitioners including Peter Brook, Stanislavsky and Jacques Lecoq are explored during the course. Students will also learn about Greek theatre and Modern Theatre techniques. Blocking, directing and analysis of text are taught and serve and an introduction to the IB course. Students will keep a journal , which is based on the IB Theatre Arts Portfolio for recording work.
