Band 7/8

Length of course: Full year/every other day

Grade Levels: 7th & 8 th

Course Description

Band 7/8 is a music course designed to teach musical concepts to seventh and eighth graders through instruction on a woodwind, brass, or percussion instruments, It is intended to further develop performance and ensemble skills started in the first year course. All instruction is done in a class setting with mixed instruments.   Classes meet every other day. All students in this class should have at least one year of instruction on their instrument as a prerequisite.

Course Aims

  1. Develop Music Literacy
  2. Produce a characteristic tone with correct embouchure and breath support
  3. Technical development upon completion of the year to match Level 3 (level set by Music Educators National Conference)
  4. Complete second year method book for grade 7 and third year book for grade 8.
  5. Perform in full-ensemble concert
  6. Perform a solo or small ensemble for their peers
  7. Master fundamental scale studies
  8. Develop routine practice habits
  9. Appreciate group dynamics and performances of others
  10. Develop a sense of personal satisfaction from playing an instrument

 

Band 1 (Beginning Band)

Length of course: Full year/every other day

Grade Levels:   Predominantly 6 th grade, some 7 th & 8 th

Course Description

Beginning Band is a music course designed to teach musical concepts to beginning instrumentalists in sixth (or 7 th and 8 th ) grade through instruction on a woodwind, brass, or percussion instruments. All instruction is done in a class setting with mixed instruments. While prior musical knowledge is an asset, it is not necessary to be successful.   Classes meet every other day.
