Mr. Mark Pleasants is the head of the English department at Cairo American College. He is from Toronto, Canada, and he has been teaching English at international schools for twelve years. He attained his bachelor of education degree from Queen’s University in Kingston, Canada. He earned a master’s degree in Curriculum and Teaching from Michigan State University, an English BA from York University in Toronto, and an Honors BA in psychology from Queen’s University, Kingston, Canada. He is presently completing a master’s degree in Educational Administration with Michigan State University. Having taught high school English in Canada, France, Bahrain, and Philippines, Mark is passionate about writing. He is a published poet, and he is presently completing a book of poetry entitled “Experiments in the Architecture of Light.” His love for reading and writing is shared with students in the classroom, and he is presently
the creative writing electives teacher at Cairo American College. Mark
lives with his wife April, two children John and Michael, family dog Max, and family cat Sunshine.
Ms. Hjellming is a National Board Certified teacher with bachelor's and
master's degrees in English from the University of Missouri-Columbia and
the University of Oregon. She earned her teaching license through Portland
State University. CAC is her first international school teaching
position. She grew up in Virginia and New Mexico, and she moved to Cairo from Portland, Oregon.
Mrs. Lynn Smith received her Bachelor's degree in English and Spanish,
and a Master's degree in Education from Doane College in Crete, Nebraska. Previous teaching positions include jobs in suburban Chicago and Schutz American School in Alexandria. Mrs. Smith calls North Platte, Nebraska, home, and lives in Cairo with her husband and twin daughters.
Have you met Mrs. Monguillon in Room 226? She is currently teaching CP 11 and 12 as well as IBHL English. Mrs Monguillon is from Alabama, went to the University of Wisconsin, Madison, did a Master’s in California and also studied at the Sorbonne in Paris, France. She has taught in South America, Europe, the US, and here in Egypt. She holds an administrative credential, a credential as a language development specialist, a reading specialist, a teacher of social studies and French and, of course as a secondary English teacher,.. She has served as a mentor teacher and consultant in credentialing for the State of California, school coordinator of IMPACT programs, ESL coordinator and trainer of trainers for the State of California. In France Mrs. Monguillon was a trainer of trainers and teacher of literature as well as of communications, negotiations and public speaking. She always has her nose in a book and believes that great literature is as essential as air. She loves to write, spend time with her family, play bridge and play the piano.
Jonathan arrived at CAC in August 2004 and is a high school English,
and Speech and Debate Instructor. He has a BA Hons. Degree from York University,
U.K and also a PGCSE from Cambridge University, U.K. His international teaching career has taken him to Zimbabwe, Malawi, Turkey and Jordan. As well as being a strong advocate of performance skills in drama, music and
speech, Jonathan writes poetry and enjoys exploring the architectural heritage of the Middle East in his spare time.
Mrs. Finlay is a OTC certified high school English teacher from Toronto, Canada. She has a BA in English Literature from Windsor University, teaching credentials from Daemen College and is currently working on her
MA in Integrated Studies. Since 1998, Mrs. Finlay has presented a variety
of workshops on innovative teaching strategies in Canada and overseas.
Before she moved to Cairo, Mrs. Finlay taught HS English in Canada, Bahrain and Kuwait. Mrs. Finlay loves to read, paint and write poetry in her spare time. |
