With parent approval, a PCR test can be conducted at the Ghaly Clinic• Students/staff who have had close contact with someone with COVID-19 must inform the Health Office and self-quarantine for 14 days before returning to school• The Health Office will implement a track and trace protocol for positive COVID-19 cases that were on campus. In addition, CAC has a contact tracing team of administrators who all completed a contact tracing training course• Positive cases of COVID-19 must self-isolate at home for at least 14 days, and cannot return to school until three days pass with no symptoms• Individuals with seasonal allergies are allowed to attend school if they do not have a fever Will be guided by the GoE requirements and recommendations by the CDC and WHO.• Mask wearing is required on campus at all times by every individual• Faculty, students, and staff are required to come to campus wearing a mask and to have a back-up mask. CAC does not provide masks• Both the nose and mouth must be covered by the mask at all times• Consult the CDC and WHO websites for specific information about how to properly wear a mask• Masks may be either fabric or cloth• There may be times during strenuous outdoor PE classes that masks may be temporarily removed if social distancing is possibleself-isolAtion/ home QuArAntineweAring of mAsksBCsCHool ClosuReA contingency scenario for closing classrooms or the school in the event that students or staff contract COVID-19 is prepared • If one or more students or staff in a class is confirmed to have COVID-19, either those seated within 2m of the infected student or the entire class will be required to quarantine for 14 days at home. Each situation will be carefully reviewed by the Health Office, our resident doctor, and the contact tracing team. In middle and high school, required home quarantine may apply to all classes the infected person attended if close contact is in evidence• E-learning will be implemented for the affected individuals or classes• If multiple cases are confirmed in school, the respective division or school may close for 14 days. In this case, e-learning would be implemented for the two weeks. CAC is prepared for a fluid transition to complete e-learning if required• If a teacher is positive for COVID-19, the class will move to e-learning for at least 14 days. If feasible the teacher will still conduct the e-learning, if not a qualified substitute teacher Social distancing has two main components, as identified by the CDC and WHO keeping individuals at a safe distance from one another and reducing the number of people with whom an individual interacts face-to-face.All students are required to maintain 2 meters of separation in class. Classroom furniture will be rearranged to ensure physical distancing to maintain a distance of 2 meters apart.Classes may be divided into two or more groups. Group size ranges from 10-15 students depending on the size of the classroom SOCIAL DISTANCING IN CLASSROOMSWhile 2m of social distance will be adhered to “comfort and contact for the youngest students will be maintained.” Narrow staircases are designated and clearly marked for one way traffic. Pre-K through Grade 5, students sit together in stable clusters of ten or fewer students. Grades 6 through 12, students are assigned seats in rows set up as if they are taking examinations, and they may not move around. Class sizes will be approximately ten students during phase 1. Parents will drop off/pick up children at the designated gates.• Student arrival and departure are designated specific gates by division with markings on the ground to show where students should wait as they enter/leave.• The back gate is designated for high school students.• Elementary students will arrive and depart with staggered times.• Routes are designated to classrooms from the multiple entrances to avoid having students and staff congregate. • no family members are allowed past entry gates until further notice.• All movement around and within the buildings is to happen with appropriate physical distancing.• Faculty and Staff may enter campus through various entrances.• Community members, Parents, and visitors are not allowed on the school premises without prior appointment.• Students go straight to classes on arrival• Hand sanitizers and handwashing facilities are available at various locations on campus.ARRIVAL/DEPARTURE• All food vendors are currently closed on campus during phase 1. Students must bring snacks and a lunch to school.• Students are constantly reminded to wash their hands specifically before and after meals.• Shared food is not allowed. • Lunch breaks and recess are staggered to reduce crowding.• The ES cafeteria will be closed until further notice.• Students are encouraged to eat lunch outdoors in the open air on good air days.• Prek-grade 5 students eat lunch in their nests.• Playground equipment will be cleaned between nest use.LUNCH BREAK AND RECESS• Returned books will be cleaned before going back into circulation.• Furniture is rearranged to allow MS/HS students to continue to use this space for study/research safely meeting social-distancing requirements. Strict capacity control and possibly study appointments will be followed in MS/HS library.• Community use will be limited to Saturdays.LIBRARY• The athletic program is suspended until phase 2 of the reopening plan.• Outdoor playtime is allowed in small, supervised groups. • Physical Education is held outdoors as much as possible. Indoor sports are kept to a minimum with small groups and in large venues.• The PE department will have department specific mitigation in place• Locker rooms will only be used for changing with capacity and social distancing rules in place. Showers are closed.• Outdoor space is divided and use staggered.• Sports equipment is cleaned after any use.ATHLETICS AND OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES• The MS/HS PRIME and WWW programs have been moved to second semester, and may be canceled for the 2020-2021 school year.• Field trips will follow strict social-distancing and hygiene protocols.ExPERIENTIAL/SERVICE LEARNING • School buses are used at reduced density for social-distancing, • Mandatory wearing of masks for all (bus drivers, monitors and students).• Temperature checks and hand sanitizing before boarding.• Bus riders showing a temperature will not be allowed to board the bus. The student will be held in the health office, and the parent contacted.• School buses are frequently cleaned. Seats, armrests, seatbelts, and grab handles are disinfected before and after student rides. • Assigned seating will be required for all bus riders to allow for contact tracing,• At the beginning of all bus routes, assigned seating will start in the back seats and end in the front seats. The first student on the bus route will be seated at the rear of the bus, and the last person entering the bus will be in the front row to limit contact with other riders,• Only siblings will be allowed to sit in the same seat• AC units will only circulate outside air. A modified schedule for specialists, and revised rules to support safety and learning for all. • Homeroom classes will be divided into two “EAGLES NESTs” with a maximum 10 students in each nest• Nests have the flexibility to be indoor or outdoors• Nest are next door/adjacent to one another for the teacher, aides, assistants to move between• Specialist teachers come to the nest to teach, other than swimming for PE• Students learn, eat, play within their nest, they do noy mix with other nests • While social distance will be maintained as much as possible, comfort and contact for the youngest students will be maintained• Students will have all of the materials they need provided in this nest• Each nest has hand washing sink, single paper towel dispenser, water cooler refill station, open trash bins• Younger class nests - PreK/Kg, Gr. 1 have a bathroom within their nest and Grade 2-5 dedicated bathrooms on their floor• Arabic/Egypt Culture, Art, Drama, Music & Guidance teachers will go to nests for class• For our initial reopening Arabic will be taught in the nest and therefore will be mixed leveled with differentiation applied • PE- We will have one PE class for the initial opening and it will be swimming, students will go to the pool with their nest• As specialists will be teaching double the classes their times have been adjusted to allow all nests to have their class each weekReopening leaRning plans in pHase 1august 18tHELEMENTARY SCHOOLOUTDOOR LEARNING & PLAYWHAT TO BRING TO SCHOOLLATE ARRIVALS TO CAIROWe appreciate that due to circumstances beyond their control, some families will not arrive in Cairo by August 18. In order to offer these students the opportunity to continue their learning, we will provide recordings of the instructional sections of lessons when appropriate. Such recordings will be limited in scope, and will not provide comprehensive overviews of the entire curriculum. These recordings will be available through the Seesaw platform. Teachers will not be available to support online learning as they will be teaching face-to-face.• Outdoor learning spaces will be set up for nests to use both in corridors and around the es division if the weather is comfortable • Students will be assigned play spaces for their nest • Cleaning has been scheduled after each nest has used a play facility• All students must come healthy to school each day and daily home temperature routines need to be in place • All students must bring and wear a cloth or fabric face mask throughout their time on campus, including in NESTs and hallways • Students must bring spare masks in a resealable or ziploc bag, labeled with their name• All students must bring a full water bottle labelled with their name• All students must bring a HEALTHY snack and lunch• Physical Education - swimming is our first unit.
