MS ACADEMIC PROGRAMS
MS MATHEMATICS The mathematics program at Cairo American College is based on the AERO standards used by many other international schools in the NESA region and elsewhere. These standards emphasize learning in four process areas: Problem Solving, Reasoning and Proof, Communication, and Connections. The CAC Mathematics program aims to create inspired lifelong learners who are mathematically literate and statistically fluent, and who can demonstrate the critical thinking essential for informed citizenship in a datarich world. CAC Mathematics teachers celebrate the wonders of mathematics, seeking to inspire students with attention to the fascinating elements of Mathematical knowledge, instilling a positive attitude towards mathematics. CAC Math teachers and teaching promotes perseverance and intellectual risk taking, while utilizing a variety of ‘best practices’ to reach all learners. Technology and technological tools play an integral role in Mathematics teaching and learning at CAC. CAC students’ mathematical learning and CAC mathematics instruction are based on the following beliefs: 
MATH 6 The goal of the 6th grade math course is to serve as the students’ introduction to prealgebra and to explore, examine and solve a wide variety of mathematical concepts. The crucial skills gained in this course include mathematical fluency and reasoning, communicating mathematical ideas and problem solving related to realworld situations. This introduction to PreAlgebra eases the transition from elementary, conceptual math to attain deeper understanding and solution fluency needed for PreAlgebra.
All concepts and skills are presented in the context of problem solving that requires the use of reasoning and communication. Areas of focus include but are not limited to: algebraic thinking; measures of central tendency; decimal and fractional computation; ratios and proportions; area and volume; and an introduction to equations and functions. The skills they learn in this course will stay with them throughout higher math education, and will prove useful in standardized testing, such as the MAP and SAT.

MATH 7 The goal of the 7th grade math course is to explore, examine and solve a wide variety of mathematical concepts. The crucial skills gained in this course include mathematical fluency and reasoning, communicating mathematical ideas and problem solving related to realworld situations. PreAlgebra eases the transition from arithmetic to Algebra.
All concepts and skills are presented in the context of problem solving that requires the use of reasoning and communication. Areas of focus include but are not limited to: data analysis and probability; algebraic foundations such as equations and inequalities; functional relationships; arithmetic and geometric sequences; measurement and Geometry. The skills they learn in this course will stay with them throughout higher math education, and will prove useful in standardized testing, such as the MAP and SAT.

MATH 8 The goal of the 8th grade math course is to explore, examine and solve a wide variety of mathematical concepts. The crucial skills gained in this course include mathematical fluency and reasoning, communicating mathematical ideas and problem solving related to realworld situations. 8th grade math prepares students for higher level high school math courses.
All concepts and skills are presented in the context of problem solving that requires the use of reasoning and communication. Areas of focus include but are not limited to: linear equations and functions; exponents; and Pythagorean Theorem. The end of the course takes the students’ knowledge of algebra one step further by introducing them to some basic concepts of Geometry.
The skills they learn in this course will stay with them throughout higher math education, and will prove useful in standardized testing, such as the MAP and SAT.
