Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Wishing all CAC Families a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy New Year and/or simply a restful break. It has been a semester with many successes and we have much to celebrate and take pride in: our students’ have done amazing work in the Performing Arts, Athletics, in their Activities and Academics. They’ve been working hard, as have our teachers. I look forward to seeing you all back in January for a revitalized new school term and many new learning opportunities.

 

To the few of our students and families who are leaving CAC at this time, we wish you all the best in your next school, and we sincerely hope that CAC will remain in your hearts!

Campus Access Requests online

Starting January 2018, parents wishing to bring friends and family to campus will request access through an online form available on the parent dashboard. This is done as part of streamlining our requests procedure for bringing in visitors on campus. This online form will capture the needed information and send it to the appropriate administrator for approval and communicate the decision to the user and the security team. A tutorial is also available in case you need help with filling out the form.

Accident Follow up: Accounts Established

For the parents who requested this option, CAC has been able to establish accounts in the names of the widows of our deceased employees. The process was not easy, but it has finally been accomplished. Some parents expressed a desire to deposit donations directly into family accounts. If this is your desire, you can get the account information from Ms. Nashwa Radwan: (nradwan@cacegypt.org).

CAC Seniors Finish 1st Sem Exams, Get Admitted to College!

Congratulations to the following seniors who were admitted to colleges and universities over the past week. CAC seniors continue to earn admission to some of their First Choice universities and to earn acceptance to top ranked schools in the US. (UK admissions are generally conditional on IB diploma scores and not cemented until after scores come out in early July). CAC students are also gaining admissions to several schools listed on Forbes’ Magazine’s “50 top universities for international students” which you can see in full here.

Notably, the admission below have come with several very fine scholarships, including two scholarships for $17,000/year for four years, and two for $22,000/year for four years. ….that is a pretty good Return on Investment (ROI) on the CAC HS tuition of $24,000/year!! Already, CAC seniors have earned more than $500,000 in scholarships for their four years in college!!! (Last year’s seniors were awarded more that $2Million USD in scholarships!) Tremendous!!

NEW HOOPS!!

The athletics department is pleased to unveil some significant upgrades on campus: we have new basketball hoops on our outdoor court (complimenting the new court surface, that was installed this summer) and new hoops are being put in to the main gym as well. The indoor hoops replace hoopes that were over 15 years old and the outdoor hoops replace their predecessors which were rusting out, no longer straight, and certainly weather-worn. Students are already using the new outdoor hoops. The Gym renovation will be revealed in January.

FUN at the HOUSE COMPETITION

Many thanks to our PE teachers, house advisors and house captains, especially Mr. Green, for the work that went into making today’s ES/MS House event fun and exciting! Students were engaged in a variety of games through the morning. In the afternoon, MS students had a full school movie and more house events; ES students wrapped the many ‘parcels’ that were donated for the Pass the Parcel service activity.

 

HOS Departure

I’ve heard reports of some confusion and so wanted to share quickly the accurate information: The Rutherford family will be leaving CAC after next school year, finishing up in June of 2019. As shared in Board Chairman Sean Murphy’s letter, I will complete seven years leading CAC and both of my children, Maya and Sam, will have graduated. It is the right time for my family to move on. I feel that in my time at CAC, I’ve accomplished much, helped a grand institution through some tough times, and that together with a great team and community, have been able to continue to make CAC a great institution of learning for kids. I look forward to a productive final 18 months at CAC, and to assisting the Board in any way I can in their search for my successor.

2018 CAC PTO/BOOSTER CLUB ART CONTEST

Theme:       "CAC in Egypt"

Deadline:    4:00 pm, Thursday, February 15, 2018

Prizes:

  • There will be one grand prize and up to nine honorable mentions in each of three age categories for students and one grand prize for the CAC community category.  

  • Age categories are 4-8, 9-13, and 14-18 and CAC Community Adults

  • The following prizes will be awarded in 4-8 and 9-13, 14-18 age categories:  

  • Winners: Gift Certificates to the CAC Spirit Store. (The amounts will be announced in January)

  • Honorable Mentions will receive an Art Contest T Shirt.

  • CAC Community Member Adult grand prize: Cash Prize. (The amount will be announced in January)

Eligibility:

  • All CAC students, alumni, teachers, staff and parents are eligible to participate,

Artwork Specifications

  • Artwork must address the given theme.

  • Only flat media will be accepted.

  • Any medium (pastel, watercolor, oil, pencil, crayon, digital art, etc.) is acceptable.

  • Submissions must be entirely or essentially the artist’s original work.  Found material such as bits of wallpaper, photographs or printed matter may be used, e.g., in a collage, but must be presented in an original way in the context of an essentially new composition.

  • Dimensions of submitted work may not exceed 55 cm x 70 cm.

Use of Artwork

  • Artwork will become the property of CAC PTO /Booster Club and will not be returned to the artist.  CAC may use submitted artwork in CAC-related publicity or products and retains the right to sell the artwork for PTO fund-raising purposes.

  • Artwork designs may be used for, but not limited to, Spirit Store merchandise such as bags, shirts, cards, refrigerator magnets and notebook covers.

Submitting Artwork:

  • All entries, including digital artwork, must be dropped off at the Spirit Store.

  • For digital artwork, please include both printed and digital versions.

  • A completed Entry Form must accompany the artwork and be attached to the back of the submission.

  • All Artwork and Entry Forms MUST be dropped off at the Spirit Store by 4 :00 pm on Thursday February 15, 2018 to be included in the contest.

The next monthly PTO meeting will be on Tuesday January 23rd at 1:30 pm at the PTO Room (#626A) which is located on the second floor of the admin building near the front entrance. All parents are welcome!

Planning is underway for the Cairo American College’s 2018 International Festival on Friday March 16, and we are in need of volunteers!

CAC GALA - Save the date:

Friday May 4, 2018

The CAC Gala is one of our major fundraising events for all our activities throughout the year.

This year’s Gala theme will be ANCIENT EGYPT! Ladies, channel your inner Cleopatra and get ready to step back in time in all your (Egyptian inspired) glamour!

Gentlemen, don’t worry! We don’t expect you to dress up as a Pharaoh, (unless you really want to!) but we promise you will have a fantastic time!

The Race to Clean the Air (Earth Day, April 22) is an annual awareness campaign and event that promotes addressing climate change issues in our community including promoting clean air initiatives. The Race committee is looking for community members who have solutions they would like to carry out within our community, want to create awareness regarding specific topics, have an area of expertise they would like to contribute or would like to volunteer their time to this shared goal.

Race awareness activities are carried out in the period leading up to the main Race event, which is tentatively planned for April 22, 2018. In order to join the committee or find out more information please contact:
