CAC Hosts ISTA!!

CAC is very excited to host an International Schools Theater Association event this week. We have visitors from six different schools, including St. John’s in Brussels and ACS in Beirut. Thank you to the parents who are hosting the visiting students in home-stays. CAC has been struggling since the Arab Spring to attract international schools to Cairo and to be a contributing host school for the athletic, cultural and performing arts events that so enrich our students’ lives. We are THRILLED to be hosting visiting schools from outside of Egypt. Next week, CAC will also host Math Counts, a US Dept of State supported Math Competition, and we will again be hosting students from abroad. We are hopeful that this is a sign of CAC returning to the ranks of the great hosting schools for ISSTs, ISTA, NESDA, MUN, and other events.

PreK/K Open House Well Attended

We were excited to welcome over 30 prospective CAC parents to our Early Childhood Open House on Tuesday. The session, led by Ms. Jackson-Jin and Ms. Amin, included classroom visits, background information about the CAC program, and information about the application process. The group was impressively diverse, and we hope will yield two wonderful classrooms of PreK and Kindergarten students for next year. The Open House is an annual event, held in Jan/Feb when parents are considering schooling options and just as CAC officially opens applications for the following school year.

College Admissions News

Congrats to the following seniors for their recent admissions!!! Way to go Seniors:

CAC College Scholarship Data

I shared some statistics last week about college admissions from last year’s Class of 2017. One additional--and very impressive--statistic: CAC Seniors were awarded over  $2,500,000  in scholarships last year (that is from the 24 students who reported...the number is likely significantly larger with 36 students having matriculated to the US.) To put that in perspective, that is more than the total senior year CAC tuition of ALL 73 seniors last year.  So, when speaking to your high school student about grades, hard work, and effort….those things really can “pay off!”

Guest Speaker--African Adventurer--Coming to CAC

The Alumni and Community Engagement Office would like to thank our alumna Sahar Al-Arishy '83 for arranging for our students to meet a fascinating guest speaker, Mr. Mario Rigby on Wednesday February 7 at 11:45 a.m. in the Middle School Auditorium. Mario did a once in a lifetime solo expedition to trek across the entire African continent from Cape Town, South Africa to Cairo, Egypt entirely by foot and paddle boat only. He has now reached Cairo, Egypt and will be sharing inspiring stories of his journey at CAC about everyday lives of Africans in an entirely unique way reflecting rich cultures, environments, and wildlife.

Friday May 4, 2018

The CAC Gala is one of our major fundraising events for all our activities throughout the year.

This year’s Gala theme will be ANCIENT EGYPT! Ladies, channel your inner Cleopatra and get ready to step back in time in all your (Egyptian inspired) glamour!

Gentlemen, don’t worry! We don’t expect you to dress up as a Pharaoh, (unless you really want to!) but we promise you will have a fantastic time!

The gala committee will have its first meeting on Sunday January 21 at 10 am.

If you would like to get involved or if you can support/sponsor this important PTO fundraiser in any way, please contact Hengameh Murphy, the CAC Gala Coordinator at murphysaroundtheworld@yahoo.com
