Great Job by CAC Students at Speech and Debate Tournament

Eight CAC high school students competed in the New European Speech, Debate, and Acting Association last weekend at the International School of Brussels and represented CAC with highly successful performances. Seven of our students advanced to elimination rounds, better than in any previous year of CAC participation.

Screen Shot 2016 12 07 at 11.57.04 AMJee Song (10) and Hussein Farid (10) advanced to the quarter finals in debate where they were defeated as they argued a resolution related to the European Union. Impromptu speaker semi-finalists were Layla Murphy (10), Hussein Farid (10) and Liam Richardson (9), and Layla advanced to the final round where she placed fifth. In original oratory, Layla, Tamara Ahmed (10) and Seif Hikal (10) advanced to the semi-finals; Layla advanced to the finals where she finished second. Aynur Shaikh (11) made it to the finals in comic oral interpretation and finished in fourth place. Layla and Aynur advanced to the finals of dramatic duet acting and were awarded the gold medals for their performance. Not only did they earn the gold medals, but they also received the students’ choice award.

These students positively and proudly represented CAC high school in every way with their energy, enthusiasm, support for each other and the respect that they earned from other schools’ students and teachers. High school students will have a second opportunity for competition as they will return to spring tournament.

Thanks to Mr. Waldoch, Mr. Bryans, and Mr. White for chaperoning.

FROM THE PTO:

Book Fair

We hope everybody enjoyed the PTO BOOK FAIR!
A big thank you to our organizers, Sarah Salmawy, Rana Harouny and Sandrine Kachour. Their dedication and hard work made the Book Fair possible.

We would also like to thank the Booster Club for the delicious treats.
We are grateful for the support of Soha Daghash and Farida Khamis, our main sponsors. Without the tents and carpets, the Book Fair would not have been as successful.

PTO Meetings
We need your help!
Not many parents attend our PTO meetings! The meetings currently take place on the first Tuesday of every month at the PTO room on the second floor of the old admin building at 1:30 pm.

In order to maximize parent participation in the PTO, we would like to know when is the most convenient time for most parents to attend. Please take the quick survey on our Facebook page and choose the option that suits you best.

Starting in January through the end of this school year, we plan to rotate the time of PTO monthly meetings between 8am, 1:30 pm and 6 pm to see if we can get more parents to attend. Parent turnout during the next semester will help us determine the best time for these meetings in the next school year.

Tortoise Update

The ES has added an After School Activity: Tortoise Club for the 2nd session. Children are meeting with Mr. Sayed, our MS Science Assistant (and CAC Tortoise Master) to learn about the Tortoises, care for them, and provide community information about our Tortoises. Kids met for the first time this week and enjoyed getting to know the famous CAC Tortoises!

Parting Shots

I enjoyed having two visitors come to my office this week to conduct an interview. The Kindergarten is researching jobs on campus, and were interviewing me to find out what the Superintendent really does (and why I like ‘high fives’). It was great to talk to them about the HS renovation, which they observed from my office.
