Eagle Eye 09-13-2018

This week provided a wonderful opportunity for teachers to learn more about the students as individuals with unique strengths and challenges (Parent Day). We thank you so much for your participation and look forward to your feedback. Please email your teachers or the principals.

We had our first announced fire drill of the year on Monday, and the students did a fantastic job. Throughout the year, we do talk to students about what to do in case of fire, earthquake, or intruder, with the subject matter and terminology adjusted for the grade level. The safety and security of our students is our highest priority, and through preparations in advance, we can ensure that students and staff know what to do in the case of an emergency.

Lifelong learning and staff development is important to us at CAC and so we look forward to welcoming and working with two Science learning consultants, who will be working with classroom teachers next week. They are supporting us in our school initiative to renew and revise our science units in the ES. We are excited to begin this journey and will keep you informed via grade level blog posts as new units are introduced.

Every month we focus on a core value. This month is creativity. Teachers in homerooms, specials, and Arabic look for ways to demonstrate and celebrate creativity. Books are a lovely way to spark conversations about our core values. We have sets of books in our classroom libraries that promote the core values and these will be rostered for coming home throughout the year. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do!

Students are invited to wear white next Thursday, September 20th in honor of Peace Day.

Weekend Bike Route Directions

Looking for a place where your child/ren can safely ride? CAC has a weekend bike route.

Directions:

- Start next to the Tortoise enclosure so it's on your left hand side

- turn left next the blue picnic tables

- turn right between the 2 ES playgrounds so the tree in the middle will be on your right hand side

- turn left so that the Health office is on your right hand side

- turn the first right, you will find a sign that says weekend Bike Route

- go all the way towards the old MS building

- turn left on the little ramp

- make a tight left turn, following the signs so the track is on your right hand side

- turn left

- turn right down the ramp so that the blue playground is on your left hand side

- turn left so that the blue playground is still on your left hand side

- turn left and you will be back at the tortoise enclosure

See the Elementary handbook for further details.
Safety is always important. Keep to the route. No biking in corridors. Enjoy!

Interesting Article

Talking to our kids about their day at school is a great opportunity to learn more about how they are doing, what they are learning and how they are getting along with their peers and their teacher.  Sometimes kids need some down time before they are ready to share and that is alright. A recent post in the Positive Parenting Connection by Ariadne Brill 25 Questions That Get Kids to Talk About School includes some great questions that encourage lively conversations about the school day.

Circle Solutions

It is important that as educators we support social and emotional literacy as well as academics.  As such, all elementary faculty go through training in Circle Solutions. Circle Solutions is a philosophy for building healthy relationships and a pedagogy for teaching them. It is based in the principles of agency, safety, positivity, inclusion, respect, and equality.  A few years ago, Circles founder Sue Roffey came and facilitated an all faculty training for teachers in the elementary school. Because of the dedication to student wellness and continued success of Circle Solutions, the administration sent 4 faculty members to become trainers. As trainers they are able to continue educating the faculty on how to successfully facilitate Circles and all teachers in the ES hold weekly Circles with their classes.  Circles is a structured, safe framework for group interactions that help develop self awareness, understanding of others, a sense of belonging, a focus on positives, increased emotional resources and better collaborative decision making. The students build connections while having fun. Please don't hesitate to let us know if you have any questions.

Repeated Announcements

Dismissal Card - New System

Dismissal cards allow a designated adult to pick-up your child. By you giving the card to the designated pick-up person you are authorizing that adult to pick up your child. The card would then be shown to security in order for the student to be allowed off campus. The card allows for pick-up at the front or back gate only, not campus access. Examples, a driver, nanny or arranged playdate adult would show your child’s dismissal card at the gate in order for your child to be allowed off campus. Cards can be ordered from the Parent Dashboard the first week of October.

In the meantime, please send an email to your child’s teacher detailing the full names of the designated adult, your child and date before 1:00 pm on the day. This allows time for the school to inform security and ES office.

We ask that playdates be arranged ahead of time. Parents can give a dismissal card to allow pick-up.

Food Services in the School

The School contracts with food service vendors to provide opportunities to purchase food items on campus. Hot lunch is catered for KG-Grade 5. The menu was created from parents’ and students’ recommendations. NOTE: The PTO organizes pizza bi-weekly on Mondays.

Check the Eagle Eye for weekly lunch menu. Payment is made at CAC’s cashier in our Welcome Center. Minimum payment of 500 LE per student is required. Your Skyward secure online food service tab is part of your Skyward account and the link can be found on your parent dashboard. This system will support if you have more than one child in our division as each child has a personalized bracelet which will register who, when and cost of each hot lunch purchased. Parents, you can view this on their Skyward account.

Health/Photo Permission Updates

Skyward is our student information system which hosts all the important data such as emergency contact, health information and other information related to students. It is important that this data is current so that we can use this data for the school-related travel and for emergencies. Kindly check that the information we have for your child is accurate. If not, please log in to your Skyward parent account and update the information. Also, parents are required to provide medical authorization at the beginning of the year, which can now be done through Skyward. We no longer send paper copies home. However, new students and students in grades 3 will still need to hand in a doctor's physical examination by Sept. 27, 2018.

Kindly update this information by Sept. 27, 2018. Students whose health records are not updated will not be permitted to attend school after Sept. 27, 2018.

Our intention is to minimize the number of emails sent to parents to collect student information for various activities. In order to achieve that, the student information on Skyward must be current. Kindly help us by keeping your information current on Skyward Family Access.

If you have questions about this information, please reply to this address: skumar@cacegypt.org.

If you have technical questions, please direct them to technology@cacegypt.org.
