Eagle Eye 09-27-2018

It’s fantastic to see all of the learning taking place in classrooms! Students are communicating about their mathematical solutions, sharing excitement about their books with reading partners, starting new units…classrooms have a fun and focused “learning buzz” as you move about the school.

Kudos to our students for their playground behavior as they look after equipment and pick up their litter. A whistle goes 1 minute before the end of recess to allow time for them to keep our playground tidy.

We are looking forward to seeing you at the Family Picnic, October 7 and our Family Math Night, October 9, 3:45 pm to 5:00 pm. See details below.

Chiara & Federica Burini’s Farewell Book

Our own Chiara and Federica Burini dedicated a beautiful book “CAC in Egypt” to the ES Office before departing to Mexico on September 20th after four years with us.

The book highlights memories, core values and their reflections about their time at CAC. They thanked all students, teachers and community members for all the joy and support they offered them.

We wish them all the best.

From the 7th to 11th October the CAC elementary school will be celebrating Global Math Week, the world’s biggest community mathematics event. The aim of the event is to unite ten million students around the globe in a shared experience of joyful uplifting mathematics. The ultimate goal of Global Math Week is to change the way the world sees math. We want to help our students appreciate math as joyful, relevant, meaningful and creative. Join us in celebrating the wonder of math!

- During this week at CAC there will be a number of different mathematical activities going on for students and families to enjoy. These include:

- During their math class that week, students will participate in the Global Math Week focus activity - Exploding Dots!

- A Math Trail will be set up around the elementary school grounds. Students and families can complete the tasks during recess or after school. Parents are encouraged to check out the math trail with their children during Family Math Night.

- A Problem of the Day will be shared with all classes each day to encourage mathematical discussion and reasoning.

Family Math Night, October 9, 3:45 pm to 5:00 pm. Will offer an opportunity for parents and students to enjoy mathematical games together. Come play math games with your child. Games develop fluency with math skills and problem solving. Experience the fun of learning through games!

Our Family Math Night games are intended to help build fluency in math in a fun and engaging way. You’ll find the rules and instructions for a wide range of math skills games using a variety of different resources, including playing cards and dice. We’ve assembled games for different skill levels ranging from Grades Pre-K through 5, all with an educational math twist.

Counseling Corner

Positive Discipline

Children have an innate desire to help.  This Positive Discipline tool, by Jane Nelson, emphasizes the importance of including children in positively contributing to their community.  If you would like more information on Positive Discipline we have several books in the counseling office that you can check out.

Core Value

This month’s Core Value is Creativity.  The elementary school defines creativity as ‘being inspired to imagine and explore’.  A lot of the times when we think of creativity we think of the arts. However, creativity is more complex and fascinating.  In elementary, we will be spending the month exploring the idea of creativity. You can help support our efforts at home by investigating the concept with your child.

How do you define creativity?  Is there anything that might block creativity?

Attached is a thought-provoking article in the New York Times about developing creativity.

How to Raise a Creative Child. Step One: Back Off

To order photographs, write your child’s name and class code on the envelope and check the package you would like to order. It is necessary to fill out a SEPARATE ENVELOPE FOR EACH CHILD IN YOUR FAMILY. Please include the money in the envelope and send it with your child on the day his/her picture is scheduled. Skyward Directory Parent Email

Dear CAC Parents,

This year, due to the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), we will no longer print and distribute a hard copy of the CAC Family Directory. We will, however, be making family contact information available through our Student Information System, Skyward. The Skyward directory has some great features: you can search for families by homeroom or by grade level. You can choose which contact information you wish to include and you can print your search results. However, each family which agrees, needs to “opt-in” to the directory; in other words, families need to verify that they would like to make their contact information available to other CAC families. If you choose not to opt-in, your contact details will not be listed in the Skyward directory.

To opt-in to the directory, please log into Skyward Family Access: Click here for instructions.

If you need any technical help with Skyward’s Family Access, the Technology department will be available to support you if you drop in to the Technology Center (ground floor of the Middle School Building) on Tuesday, September 25th between 8:00 am and 10:00 am, or between 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm

Please understand that if you do choose to print the data to have it easily accessible at home, that it is confidential and should be destroyed when you no longer need it.

With kind regards,

Danya Amin

Registrar
