PRINCIPAL'S WELCOME

Dear Parents,

Thank you for reading this week’s version of the News and Views.

It has been a fruitful week of teaching and learning in Middle School! During the week in advisory, students were busy doing their best taking MAP tests. The majority of the students who spoke to me about their results had shown growth from last spring. Even the few who felt they hadn’t done better, have already set an academic goal for themselves to improve in the spring.

We held our annual Peace Day Assembly on Thursday morning. It was great to get together as an entire PreK-12 school, to celebrate the International Day of Peace. Well done to the CAC Partners in Peace who planned the events, and to all of the students and teachers who participated in the assembly. It was a very uplifting experience and a great way to start the day and go off into the weekend.

Principal Coffee Morning was held Wednesday at 10:00 am, Room 115. Many thanks to the parents who made it, and we hope that you will continue to attend our coffee mornings. The focus of our talk was Technology in Middle School. With the launch of our new single platform for all teachers, we showed parents how to easily access their students’ academic information. Our next Principal coffee Morning will be October 17th where we will be discussing the ATLs (Approach to Learning).

In two weeks, we will be issuing our first set of standards-based progress reports for the first semester on Wednesday, October 3rd. We hope that this “snapshot” of learning will provide students and parents with valuable information about the progress being made toward academic learning goals. The reports will also be issued electronically.

In the case of all progress reports, teachers will report only on the Approaches to Learning and in some cases, students will also receive a Narrative Comment from their teacher, but we do not usually require this from teachers. We strongly urge parents to make the time to talk with their child about their learning, and to focus specifically on the Approaches to Learning.

We report on these separately, and in the past, we have found that students who perform well on their Approaches to Learning, tend to also do well in areas of Academic Achievement.

A big thank you to all students who ran for a position in our Executive Council.

We are pleased to tell you that the Student Council Executive Officers for 2018-2019 are:

President: Faisal Shahabudeen

Vice President: Bess Parnell

Secretary: Lara Senna

Treasurer: Sedona Bromley

Congratulations to all!

STUCO 18 19

Thank you for your continued support of Middle School and enjoy your weekend everyone.

In Partnership,
Courtney Bailey

Middle School Principal
