Great First Week of School!!

CAC has had a wonderful first week of school. We happily welcomed 155 new students from 110 families, representing 22 nations! Our total enrollment for August will ring in at about 788 students, PreK-12. There are still some families awaiting visas and a few with other complications, so we anticipate adding another 10 perhaps, by end of Sept. We closed in June with 785, so a tiny bit of growth, which is a positive for the school. Some images from our first days:

Mr. Bailey welcomes new MS students.

Students in the first assemblies in the renovated Theater!

Busy learning in PreK on Day #1!

And we got in the pool on the first day, too!

HS students sign up for Activities.

Thanks to the PTO for the Welcome Back Coffee!

Theater Renovation

CAC’s very busy Theater got a much needed face-lift this summer. New carpet, new seats, new safety lights and new floor molding have all contributed to a major transformation and upgrade. Gone are the chairs that were falling apart (often just when you sat in one!), light fixtures that were falling off the steps, and the old, worn carpet. It looks great and smells new!

We will be working hard to keep it looking new by enforcing the ‘no food and drink’ rule in the Theater. Thank you for your doing your part in helping us keep the Theater looking great!

Thank you to the PTO for their support of this project.

CAC Says Goodbye to Long Term Employee

CAC said goodbye today to long term Administrative Assistant Eveleen Iskander. Eveleen has worked at CAC for 24 years, in the Human Resources Department and in the Superintendent’s Office. She served many CAC Superintendents, most recently Mr. Mockrish up to 2011. Eveleen is retiring and looks forward to spending time with her grandson. We wish her well in her new phase of life...retirement!

Arabic Classes for the Community

We would like to offer an Arabic beginning class to the CAC community. In this class, you will develop two basic skills (speaking and listening).  Participants will learn the context of major themes in Egyptian/Arabic culture by investigating traditions, places, occasions, foods, clothing, and expressions.

By the end of the course, you will be able to communicate with people in the target language about events and situations. Participants will do that in both present and past tenses. The class will be held in Room 215 from 3:30-4:30 on Wednesdays. Classes start on September 12th and end up by Christmas break.

Please add your name here, if you're interested in attending the class.

Thank you/Shukran!

CAC’s Newest Tortoises!!

It has been several years since our tortoises have reproduced, but we were so pleased to find two new babies in our tortoise enclosure this month! This is the first crop of new babies since we’ve moved the tortoise enclosure down to the ground level. The babies have been removed from the enclosure for their own protection (they are tiny!) and for better care. They are in a terrarium outside the ES Office. Come have a look!

Please Update Family Data

Please help us ensure smooth communication between home and school. If any of your personal contact information has changed or if you have new emergency contact information, please ensure that you update that with us through Skyward (you’ll be sent an email asking you to do so) or by dropping in to the Welcome Center and speaking to the folks there to update phone numbers, addresses, emergency info, and anything else that has changed.

Please do also ensure that you get in your required Health forms. This is essential for the health and safety of our community.

From the CAC Libraries

The CAC libraries are pleased to welcome the CAC community to the 2018-2019 school year! Our librarians this year are:

- Josianne Fitzgerald, MHS Librarian

- Nan Miller, ES librarian

Please stop by and introduce yourselves, especially if you are new parents to CAC.

The libraries will be open this Saturday, from 10 to 2. Come return your summer checkouts and select materials to celebrate the beginning of the year.

We are very excited about our upcoming author visit by author Margriet Ruurs and illustrator Nizar Ali Badr, who collaborated on the picture book, Stepping Stones: A Refugee Family's Journey. They will be at CAC from September 18-20, and hopefully will be joining our Peace Day celebrations. Stay tuned for details!

The new school year is a great time to join a growing, fun parent volunteer organization! Your child's involvement in athletics and extracurricular activities can receive a boost from added funds raised by Booster Club projects. The Booster Club has taken on exciting new areas recently, successfully transforming the school store into the Spirit Store now in the heart of the campus, and expanding the Booster Café to offer our popular concessions weekly after school and at sports events. We funded dozens of exciting projects and scholarships last year. There are so many ways your vision and talents can fit in!

Come find out about Booster Club activities at a New Volunteer Coffee on Wednesday, 5th of September 10-11am at the Spirit Store (just behind Cafe Greco near the elementary school).

Our monthly meetings are open to all interested volunteers! Join us in the MS/HS library on the third Tuesday of every month at 11am.

Spirit Store

We've designed our regular hours to be convenient for school pickup, lunch, and dropoff times. Come get your school supplies and school regalia. We're always finding new ways for you to show your school pride!

Opening hours every Sunday through Thursday:

Booster Café

The treats you love will be back after school starting Thursday, September 6! Look for the awning next to the gym entrance and find out why our homemade cookies inspire such accolades.

From the PTO:

We hope that everyone has enjoyed a great summer!

We would like to welcome all our new and returning families to the wonderful CAC Community and wish everyone a fantastic school year ahead!

Please note that all parents and teachers are members of the PTO and we would love to see many of you at our meetings and activities.

We look forward to seeing you there!
