MUN Weekend at CAC; CAC-MUN celebrates 40 Years!

It’s a huge weekend at CAC as we host our annual CAC-MUN Conference. MUN is the Model United Nations activity, a simulation of UN activities wherein students represent countries, conduct business and negotiations, and work through a simulated international situation requiring diplomacy, negotiating skill, persuasive speaking, quick thinking, and teamwork. CAC students annually do very well in this activity, and our hosted MUN is anticipated as a high quality event by many.

Not only is this a big weekend for our MUN students, but this is a big year for our MUN organization at CAC….it is our 40th MUN conference! 300+ students will be visiting campus, including students from international schools in Pakistan and Lebanon. Congrats to all the students, advisors, and others who are helping to make this a great weekend and an event in which CAC truly shines. Particular thanks to Mrs. Duggan and Mr. Zerr-Smith for their work as MUN Advisors.

League Latest

Dr. Harris and Mr. Fitzgerald are away in Amsterdam this weekend speaking to the Athletic Directors of other former ISST member schools to discuss the possibility of creating a new European league of which CAC might be a part. Their discussions will be informed by the data we gathered last week via the survey sent out to HS students, parents, teachers, and alumni, asking ‘what is most important to you for a new league?” The results below represent the returns from a small sample of students, parents and alumni, but most HS teachers and coaches. The graph shows a primary priority on ‘quality competition’ and then several closer priorities for a Comprehensive league (more than just sports); a sustainable league (that CAC can count on for years forward); a league that will allow for the continuation of our current main sports; and quality facilities to host tournaments.

Along with the work with the European schools, on October 28th, Mr. Kenney McCauley (former CAC employee) will visit CAC. Mr. McCauley is the Chairman of the MESAC league, and he will. present the MESAC option to our community. You can learn a bit more about MESAC here and here. Meeting times will be communicated next week; he will speak to students, parents, teachers, and the Board.

Following that presentation, we will work to evaluate which option, the new European League or MESAC, best meets CAC’s needs.

We appreciate the work that Dr. Harris and Mr. Fitzgerald are doing in the shared effort to provide what is best for CAC students and to keep our traditions strong.
