Many Community Events Coming Up!

Several great community events coming up in the next few, very busy weeks. We hope you and your family will come out and support CAC’s musicians, our Student Council and our PTO. Each of these events contributes to the very special community feel that makes CAC stand out among international schools. Soak it up!

League Latest

CAC thanks The British School in the Netherlands for sharing their Athletic Director with us this week. Tom Archer came to CAC on Tuesday and met with Students, Parents, Board members and Faculty to talk about the new European sports league that is being formed in the wake of ISST’s “realignment.” 15 quality international schools are engaged in conversation and planning, and this is one of two options for CAC for next year. The new league will host the same varsity sports on the same seasons as ISST, and may offer a few JV sports next year. The tournaments have been reduced in length of time to cut down on absences, and for the most part, students will be housed in hotels, rather than home-stays. The schools are committed to making the league work and be more open with shared leadership, as opposed to ISST.

CAC has now to decide on whether we will pursue this new European league option or the MESAC option. Two committees are working simultaneously and will make a recommendation to the Board for the an endorsement. We should know the outcome of this momentous decision on Dec 12th.

Rutherford Family News:

After (nearly) seven full and busy years of growth and learning at CAC for the Rutherford family, our time in Cairo will draw to a close in June. Our search for ‘what’s next’ has recently come to an end, and I am happy to share that I will be the next Director at The American School of Milan, in Italy. ASM is very much like CAC, and in fact there are a handful of former CAC students attending ASM right now (I met two of them when I was there interviewing). ASM has 900 students and facilities much like ours. It is a warm school community, and Yoshiko and I felt an immediate affinity. We are also excited to be in a different part of the world offering a whole new range of things to explore and learn about. We will take CAC’s Mission with us, as we set out to Learn, Explore, and have Fun in a whole new environment.

CAC’s 2018 Battle of the Books winners!

Congratulations to all of the  MS students who participated in this year’s Battle of the Books. We had the final round of the reading competition on Wednesday, and six finalist teams battled it out for bragging rights and grand prizes. One team of super readers won overall:  Orange Purple Dinosaurs, but all teams demonstrated excellent recall and comprehension of the six titles selected for this year.

All finalists joined us for a pizza party today to celebrate their reading and to talk about books. We welcome recommendations for next year’s shortlist. Emaillibrarian@cacegypt.org
