CAC STUDENT-ATHLETE STORIES

CAC senior, Ahmed Hassan has shared a very inspiring story with us, about how his time here at CAC has positively affected his life and his career plans. The 17 year old is an  IB Diploma student here at the school. Ahmed plays his favorite sport, handball, in the Egyptian National Team. “Being in the National team means that I often have to miss a lot of classes and time at school to go to training camps. Just this week I had a meeting with Mr Buckman, Ms. McCall,  Mr Williams, and Ms. Beans who have been coordinating with all my teachers to provide me with a more flexible schedule that allows me to pursue a passion of mine while still working to earn my Diploma,” explains Ahmed.

Last year, Ahmed had to miss two whole weeks from school, this year he expects to miss around 40 days. He explains that his teachers all took the time to send him the material he needed to study as well as his assignments for him to work on at his own time and pace. In addition, when he underperformed in any subject they still took the time to be there for him, he explained; “ My teachers took the time to come talk to me and provide their support if they felt that I was not performing to the best of my abilities, and all the teachers were very lenient and supportive.”

This was especially helpful for the student, who at a certain point had been thinking of dropping the IB Diploma due to the very demanding nature of being a player in the National Team.

When asked what plans he has for his future, Ahmed explained that he had two options he was still considering. “ I have a good chance of making it to the 2024 Olympics, so that is something I am really striving for. The other option is to pursue academics and apply for a degree at the University of Pennsylvania. I am still deciding on which plans to follow,” he explained.

We are very proud of the CAC senior, whose hard work and dedication have driven him to be where he is today. Our school recognizes the importance of a 360-degrees educational experience, where activities and sports play a major role. For this reason, our students have our full support as a school, in pursuing their dreams and aspirations.
