PRESCHOOL

Intended to develop in young children (3 years-5 years) a comfort level in and around the water, as well as a readiness for learning to swim. It is important to understand that these classes are NOT designed to teach children to become accomplished swimmers or even to survive in the water on their own. The classes provide information and techniques for parents to orient their children to the water and to learn how to safely supervise all water activities.

*NOTE! A parent must accompany the child in the water during each class.

LEARN-TO-SWIM CLASSES FOR CHILDREN

LEVEL I,  LEVEL II & LEVEL III

These American Red Cross courses for children enhance water adjustment, swimming development and personal safety and rescue skills.
PARENTS, PLEASE NOTE THAT AFTER SCHOOL BUSES ARE NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE FOLLOWING LEARN TO SWIN CLASSES, AS WE FINISH THE CLASSES AT 4:15 PM.

SPRINGBOARD DIVING

Pre-Requisites: Grades 1-12 and drown-proof in deep water.

Tuesdays: 4:15-5:00PM

CONDITIONING

Swimming for conditioning is a course designed for those who want to improve their cardiovascular fitness as well as lose weight and tone up. If you know how to swim but feel your technique can use some adjustment, or if you want to learn a new stroke, help is also provided for those areas.

AMERICAN RED CROSS LIFEGUARDING COURSE

The American Red Cross Lifeguarding Course provides the necessary minimum skills & knowledge needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies.

Pre-Requisites:

  1. 1. 15 years of age on or before the final scheduled session of this course.
  2. 2. Swim 300 yards continuously using these strokes in the following order:
    • o 100 yards of front crawl using rhythmic breathing and a stabilizing, propellant kick.
    • o 100 yards of breaststroke using a pull, breathe, kick and glide sequence.
    • o 100 yards of either the front crawl or breaststroke. The 100 yards may be a combination of front crawl and breaststroke

      NOTE: There is no time requirement for this skill. The participant must show only that he/she can swim 300 yards using the above strokes without stopping. The purpose of the swim is to demonstrate comfort in the water.

  3. 3. Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using front crawl or breaststroke, surface dive 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10 pound object, return to the surface, swim 20 yards back to the starting point with the object and exit the water without using a ladder or steps, within 1 minute, 40 seconds.

COURSE FEE: $200 (includes Lifeguarding, CPR and First Aid). Pre-register at the Pool Office from 2:30-3:30 every school day and during open swim hours.

SCHEDULE: Lifeguarding begins on Tuesday August 30, and extends through Tuesday November 1. Class is held every Tuesday from 4:30-6:30pm. Please be prompt!

Note!! Mark your calendar for Saturday October 1 - CPR in the PE classroom from 8am-5pm.

AGE GROUP SWIM TEAM

Age Group Swim Team is a fun team for boys and girls, grades 1-12, focusing on the development and perfection of the four competitive strokes. Swim Team is a full season commitment offered in Fall and Spring. The Fall Season begins with tryouts on August 28/29 and runs from September 4 - November 10. The Spring season runs from March 19 – May 25

A seasonal fee is charged for the swim team. ES students pay $65 for Fall Age Group (two practices per week). MS/HS students pay $130 for Fall Age Group (four practices per week).

PRACTICE TIMES: The team practices every Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: Practice time is from 3:15-4:15PM. Swimmers practice two days per week, either Sunday & Wednesday or Monday & Thursday. Emphasis is placed on stroke and skill development in all four competitive strokes. Late bus dismissal for this group is 4pm.

MIDDLE & HIGH SCHOOL: Practice time is from 4-5:30PM. Swimmers are expected to practice at least three days per week, with practice offered every weekday except Tuesday. Emphasis is placed on stroke refinement and drills for the four competitive strokes. Starts and turns are introduced.

PRE-REQUISITES TO JOIN SWIM TEAM FOR THE FIRST TIME : A Swimmer must demonstrate 25 meters front crawl, with rotary breathing; 25m back crawl AND be drown-proof in deep water.
