GGS--Girls Get Strong!Screen Shot 2017-03-15 at 1.27.28 PM.png

Girls Get Strong will host its second health and fitness conference on Saturday, March 25th.  This year we are expanding our model and inviting other international schools in Cairo to join us!  This year’s theme is Breaking Boundaries and it is without a doubt we have assembled a wide variety of experts to help our young women break the boundaries preventing them from living healthy lifestyles.

Some of the topics we will be addressing this year are gender profiling in athletics, goal setting, injury prevention and rehabilitation, and nutrition.  The conference will feature licensed counseling therapists, nutritionists, personal trainers, and physiotherapists.  Along with learning from qualified professionals, students will participate in a variety of fitness activities that include barre, body attack, crossfit, kickboxing, step aerobics, TRX, yoga, and zumba.

Congratulations to Elected 2017-18 Trustees

Congratulations to May Oweiss and Karim Kamel, who were elected in CAC’s Trustee elections this week. Of 1050 eligible voters, about 450 voted, for a turnout of about 43% of the electorate. We were very happy to have five enthusiastic candidates willing to run. I look forward to working with May and Karim over the next two years as we work together to ensure that CAC remains an outstanding school for generations of students to come.

Greetings to CAC Knitters and Crocheters.

We have been invited by the Universal American School of Dubai to participate in a collaborative knitting/crochet project. They have called it Bridges of Love. Here is a promotional video about the project.

The project calls for any of the following using 100% acrylic wool

- Knitting or weaving in 8” wide strips: any stitch, any length.

- Crochet flowers, hearts, or any shapes you like: Any size or stitch

- 6.5” Crochet Grandma Squares: any stitch

Since we are sending these from Egypt, we thought it would be a good idea to use red, white and black yarn in any combination. It needs to be 100% acrylic because the final project will be outdoors.

If you can knit or crochet, we encourage you to send in a piece. There will be a collection box at the ES library.

If you have any questions, please contact Josianne Fitzgerald at the CAC ES Library.

Founders’ Day70th logo color.png

March 30 will be CAC’s second annual Founders Day. CAC was founded in 1945, and in the last 71 years, thousands of people have come together to make it the unique learning community that it is today. Founders Day is a time to celebrate not only our four founding organizations but also the people who make our personal experience here special.

We’re celebrating all of next week by asking CAC community members in Cairo and around the world to show their school pride and share stories of what made their time here special. In class on Monday, March 27, teachers will be distributing cards to students so they can write letters to the person at CAC that they’re most thankful for. On March 30, we’re asking CAC community members around the world to wear their school colors. Come to school on Thursday, March 30 wearing your CAC spirit wear to participate. We’ll also be having an assembly on campus to celebrate!

Walking Tour of Heliopolis, Wednesday April 26, 2017

*Please note that due to a national holiday the date of this trip has been changed from April 25 to April 26.

We will stop by the Baron Palace, built by the Belgian-born industrialist, Baron-General Eduard Louis Joseph Empain (1852-1929) who also founded the modern Heliopolis area in 1907.

We will walk through the beautiful El Korba section, a quaint shopping district that boasts original architecture, fascinating cultural sites as well as some of Cairo’s finest cafés and restaurants. We will walk in the European style commercial streets, and try to see the Basilique church, Adly Madgar Jewish synagogue, Hippodrome square, Maryland park, El Tahra palace, and Saray el Qubbah. If there is time, we may stop at a cafe for coffee or lunch.

A.P.E. needs your used Nespresso Capsules!

In support of Earth Day and CAC's relationship with A.P.E., (The Association For The Protection of the Environment, the PTO has organized a school-wide collection of the much-loved Nespresso capsules!

After collection, CAC will deliver the empty capsules to A.P.E., who use them to create fun jewelry. We also look forward to a school visit from A.P.E. in the future as another way to support their cause.

What to do: after use, empty out the capsules and start a collection bag. Drop off boxes will be on campus starting April 2.

Start saving those capsules!!!  Lets see how much we can collect for A.P.E!!!

Lost and Found

Part of educating students at CAC is encouraging independence through increasing responsible behaviors. We constantly encourage students to label their items so that they are easily identified and returned back to the owner. It is also important that students know what to do when they lose any of their items.

Here is what we advise students to do when they report a lost item:

1- Look everywhere (lost & found table/class/playground/inside backpacks/home ,etc,...)

2- Ask Others (friends/teachers/parents/siblings,etc,..)

3-Ask parents to report to the lost and found link. Upper grade students can do this too.

4- Use the same link to report when item is found.

In order to support our students and community members with the above process, we created the below Lost and Found link to help us track of lost and found items.

High School Building Renovation Update

The High School building work continues at a good pace. I toured the facility yesterday and was impressed by much of what I saw.

  • The security tunnel has been excavated and the sub-floor poured.

  • Structural upgrade is nearly complete, with only a handful of columns still needing reinforcement or finishing.

  • New staircases done! Old stairs (the ‘back stairs) receiving a new housing on the top floor.

  • The footings for the metal structures which will form the exterior walls and roof of the top floor have been measured and poured. This was precision work as the footings must accept large, heavy prefabricated metal beams. We should see the beams about the end of the month.

  • The shape of the renovated building is starting to emerge as bits are added beyond the reinforcement: the elevator shaft clearly marks that improvement to the facility. The internal ‘bridge’ connecting the North and South facing sides of the top floor will be poured in the coming week.
