Spring Break

 

Wishing everyone safe travels over this break.  Classes resume as normal on Sunday, April 23.  

 

School Holidays – No Classes

 

There are no classes on April 25 and May 1. 

 

 

Athletic Eligibility Progress Reports 

 

The April 27th Gradebook Update will be used to determine continued sports and ISST eligibility. It is very important that any students with outstanding work submit it before this Gradebook update.  Once the grades are posted on April 27th, they will not be adjusted and, as such, students who find themselves ineligible because they failed to submit their assignments on time will be unable to continue participating or travel for the May ISST tournaments.

 

 

Senior Final Exams: May 28-29

 

Please see this link for senior final exam dates. Specific information about exact times and exam room assignments will be available in future announcements. If you have specific questions about an exam in a particular course, please see your teacher. If you see that you have an exam conflict, inform the relevant teachers and Mr. Duggan.

Counseling Department Announcements

 

This week during Flex periods, Sophomores learned about their personality styles and potential majors and careers based on their personality attributes.  For those that missed the sessions, we will hold a makeup on Wednesday, April 26th during lunch in MS 115.

 

Thank you to all those students and parents that attended this week’s event with Dartmouth, Yale, Columbia, and UPenn, and juniors, thank you for participating in their special college essay writing session.  We hope to see their representatives back on our campus soon!

 

On Wednesday April 26th and Thursday April 27th, Freshman will be exploring their talents and strengths during Freshman seminar through Strengths Explorer, a strengths assessment that assesses 10 talent themes for individuals and identifies each student’s three strongest emerging talents. Upon completion of StrengthsExplorer, students will be provided with explanations of their top three themes and will learn how to capitalize on their success and discover what they need to do next to continue building on their strengths.

 

On Thursday April 27th, a representative from Keele University will visit our campus during lunch.

Annual Community Surveys Coming Soon

 

Every year CAC surveys community members to gather important feedback about multiple topics:  student learning, campus facilities, curriculum, activities and sports, and leadership.  Surveys are sent to parents, students, teachers and staff, and trustees.  Surveys are completed electronically and are anonymous.

 

Input from parents is especially important because you selected CAC as the place to educate your child.   The surveys will arrive by email in the near future.  The surveys will take less than 20 minutes to complete.  There are opportunities to provide written feedback as well.

 

As with last year, if you have more than one child attending CAC at different grade levels, you have the opportunity to complete a portion of the survey for each child at CAC separately.  This gives you the chance to provide specific feedback based on the different experiences of each child.  

 

Each parent/guardian is encouraged to complete the survey.

MAP & AAPPL Spring Information

 

Dear Parents,

 

As May approaches, it is time for CAC to conduct year end assessments.  All year end assessments allow teachers, parents, and students to gauge levels of learning through external assessments.  External assessments are important as they provide a different point of data about student learning.  CAC limits the number of external assessments to the minimum necessary to provide useful information for all stakeholders.

 

After spring break, this year, there will be two cross division assessments:  Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) and ACTFL Assessment of Performance toward Proficiency in Languages (AAPPL). 

 

MAP testing is administered to grades 3 - 9 each fall and spring in the subjects of Mathematics, Reading, and Language Usage.  CAC will be testing from May 2 - 18.  East test is conducted via computers and lasts approximately an hour.  Individual student results will be shared with you in early June.  Overall school results will be communicated to the school community in early June and at the beginning of the 2017-2018 school year..

 

MAP is an adaptive criterion referenced test, meaning that it determines the performance level of each individual student.  Students receive a RIT (Rasch Unit)  score which places students on a continuum.  There is no “grade level” standard, but there are averages for a grade level. The spring tests are important as they will show your child’s individual growth from the fall testing session.  More information about RIT is located at the MAP site.

 

AAPPL is a proficiency assessment for world languages.  This is the second year that we have administered AAPPL in grades 4 - 12, Arabic, French, and Spanish.  As with MAP, assessments are conducted on the computer and results will be sent home.  The assessments take up to 30 minutes.  Teachers in individual classes will administer AAPPL during the month of May.  

 

Teachers will inform students of their testing day for each assessment.  Please ensure that your child has a good night’s rest the previous evening and a good breakfast each test day.  Encourage your child to take each assessment seriously.

Acroyoga/Acrofit

 

When: Sundays, 4:00pm-5:00pm
Where: Athletic building basement gym
Who: Nicolas Gallois coordinates
What: Open to faculty, students, parents, alumni and community members. AcroYoga elevates the connection between you and others through movement, connection, and play. This is a 3-partners practice: the sturdy base, the trustful flyer, the focused spotter (with frequent turnover). Session format: team-building game, yoga warm-up, acroyoga jam.

In support of Earth Day and CAC's relationship with A.P.E., PTO will be holding a school-wide collection of the much- loved Nespresso capsules... After collection, CAC will deliver the empty capsules to A.P.E., who use them to create fun jewelry. We also look forward to a visit from A.P.E. in the future as another way to support their efforts in raising money. 

What to do: after use, empty out the capsules and start a collection bag. Drop off boxes will be on campus. 

Start saving those capsules!!! Let’s see how much we can collect for A.P.E!!!

PTO PARENT TRIP:

Walking Tour of Heliopolis, Monday, April 24, 2017

 

*Please note that due to a national holiday the date of this trip has been changed from April 25 to April 24.

We will stop by the Baron Palace, built by the Belgian-born industrialist, Baron-General Eduard Louis Joseph Empain (1852-1929) who also founded the modern Heliopolis area in 1907.

We will walk through the beautiful El Korba section, a quaint shopping district that boasts original architecture, fascinating cultural sites as well as some of Cairo’s finest cafés and restaurants. We will walk in the European style commercial streets, and try to see the Basilique church, Adly Madgar Jewish synagogue, Hippodrome square, Maryland park, El Tahra palace, and Saray el Qubbah. If there is time, we may stop at a cafe for coffee or lunch.

Please wear comfortable walking shoes.

The Citadel, The Sultan Hassan Mosque & Madrasa, Al-Rifa’i Mosque

The Saladin Citadel of Cairo is a medieval Islamic fort, on Mokattam hill near the center of Cairo. The Citadel was once famous for its fresh breeze and grand views of the city.

The complex includes the Mosque of Muhammad Ali, which dominates the skyline of Cairo with its beautiful alabaster dome, the Mosque of Sultan al-Nasir Muhammad, the Mosque of Sulayman Pasha, Gawhara Palace; and several museums.

 

Afterwards we will visit the nearby Sultan Hassan Mosque & Madrasa, and Al-Rifa’i Mosque.

*Please cover shoulders and knees, wear loose pants or a long skirt, and bring a scarf.*

All PTO trips cost 100LE per person for transportation, a professional tour guide and security when necessary. Entrance fees, meals, refreshments, and any shopping are the participant’s responsibility. We meet at 8:15 a.m. at the back gate of CAC and the bus will leave promptly at 8:30 a.m. We will return to school by 2:00 p.m. Please be sure to leave a mobile phone number when you register. Lost and Found

 

Part of educating students at CAC is encouraging independence through increasing responsible behaviors. We constantly encourage students to label their items so that they are easily identified and returned back to the owner. It is also important that students know what to do when they lose any of their items.

Here is what we advise students to do when they report a lost item:

1- Look everywhere (lost & found table/class/playground/inside backpacks/home ,etc,...)

2- Ask Others (friends/teachers/parents/siblings,etc,..)

3-Ask parents to report to the lost and found link. Upper grade students can do this too.

4- Use the same link to report when item is found.

In order to support our students and community members with the above process, we created the below Lost and Found link to help us track of lost and found items.
