Eagle Eye 10-11-2018

A great week of math celebrations this week! The math trail was a huge success with many of our students immersed in math conversations and thinking. We were all so happy with how many families joined us at the Family math night and look forward to your feedback. Please take a few moments to reflect on that evening at school (link below). We will use this information to improve any future Family Math Nights at Cairo American College.

National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is a fun, month-long writing event that happens every year in November, where students are challenged to write a novel in a month. This year CAC is offering this enrichment opportunity to students in grades 3 - 5. Some of your children may have already come home with some information and told you about this. For those who would like to learn more, please join us for a NaNoWriMo Parent Information Session in the Library Classroom this coming Tuesday, October 16th from 8:30 am - 9:30 am.

October 25 Halloween Celebrations

The Halloween Party, October 25, will be a time for the students to celebrate as a class/grade with their teachers (fun activities & food will be provided by our wonderful room parents).

All students can come dressed to school as long as their costume will not interfere with movement or their learning.

Parents, you are welcome to join your child at 2:00 pm to help them put on the finishing touches for their costume and then join us in watching students parade. We ask that you do not join before 2:00 pm as this will be a special time for the students with their teachers.

After parading everyone will be invited to join our students in a fun dance. PreK and Kindergarten students will return to class for dismissal and Grade 1-5 will be dismissed from the ES lawn, 3:05 pm.

The PTO Halloween Spooktacular happens after school, from 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm.

Important - inform your child’s teacher and/or transportation office (melghalban@cacegypt.org) of any change in dismissal plans, such as not riding the bus or another adult pick up.

No hot lunch will be available from Richoux as food will be provided. If you do not want pizza for your child, please send lunch. Students will need snacks for first recess.

Halloween Carnival Tickets

Halloween carnival tickets go on sale on
Sunday, October 14. You can buy your tickets in the CAC entrance every day before or after school until October 25. All CAC ID holders may purchase tickets. Please fill out the campus access form on the Dashboard if you would like to bring guests to the carnival.

Halloween? Already?

Oh no... COSTUMES!!!!

The Performing Arts Department is here to help. We will be selling costumes from our past 4 Productions. Each costume is for 350 LE. All proceeds will go to our ES Production budget. The costumes will be available for selling every morning for the next two weeks, and Sundays and Wednesdays after school.

Happy Halloween!

Ms. Dolly & Mr. Eric

At times throughout the year we invite parents to the grade level to celebrate end of unit work. Grade 1 celebrated the end of their writing unit today and enjoyed the stories shared.

They celebrated all their growth during their first units in reading and writing. In writing the Grade One authors showed their parents how they can take one big topic and add many details to bring their small moment stories to life. In reading the Grade One readers showed their buddy class how they can choose 'just right' books and how they can use many strategies to help their understanding during reading time. Our readers enjoyed showing their buddies how to stretch words out, how to use the pictures as clues, and how they are able to read with much more stamina than the start of the year.

Cairo Challenge Series (CCS) returns

After the success of last year’s CCS, we are excited to be running the elementary school sports event again. We have increased the number of events from 5 to 6 and are hoping for even more participation during the lunch period.

The first event is the 40m sprint, which starts next week, between 12:10 pm - 12:50 pm. Each day will see a different grade participating (please see below). The top 12 performers in each grade will go onto the final on Thursday, October 18th.

Finals for Grade 2 - 5

There is no sign up necessary, students should just come to the track to register. Every participant will receive a participation button for taking part. On the day of your child’s races, please pack a lunch for them, as there will be limited time to get a hot lunch on these days. There will be an area for students to eat when they are not racing. Also, please make sure they are wearing appropriate sports shoes.

We are extremely excited to get this program started again and look forward to seeing your child having fun with sport. Parents are welcome to watch. If you have any questions, there is additional information on our PE Blog or you can email Mark Mayfield @ mmayfield@cacegypt.org.

Library News

Students are enjoying the new books and playaway audio books. With school in full swing, students are visiting the library weekly. Please remind them to return items each week. Thank you!

Fun Celebrations

We have a number of fun celebrations including two family picnics throughout the year for our division and we would like to share these with you. In previous years parents have paid for each of our celebrations, however this year and beyond the cost of our elementary celebrations will be covered by the school. For family picnics, you can choose to order a bbq meal or bring your own.
