THE SCRIBE PAPER IS BACK!

Scribe1Remember The Scribe Newspaper at CAC? Well, we've brought it back this year! The Alumni and Community Engagement Office even introduced our students to old copies of The Scribe that date back to the 60s and 70s to understand what was news then versus now! They were quite surprised and have done an amazing job with all their issues. If you are ever on campus, please take one and enjoy the read. We look forward to so many more great issues!

IN MEMORIAM

KIRRAAmna

Kira Goodwin’03: It is with a heavy heart that we share news of the loss of our alumna Kira Goodwin'03 due to a tragic avalanche accident on December 31, 2017. Kira, of British Columbia and Alberta, Canada lived a vibrant but short 32 years. She was taken from this world by an avalanche while backcountry skiing in the west Kootenay mountains on December 31st, 2017. She had quite a love for adventure, was an avid traveler, exceptional athlete and a lover of nature and wildlife. She was passionate about living and had a smile and personality that were larger than life. She made family everywhere she went, not just friends.
Kira loved her career in nursing and used her skills to serve in Neonatal Intensive Care, the Chemotherapy Clinic and the Operating Room. She was an ambassador for Canada everywhere she traveled, and loved to immerse herself deeply in culture. She was generous and kind in life and death. Although Kira could not be saved, she was an organ donor and therefore directly responsible for supporting the lives of others.
Kira was one of a kind and will never be forgotten. To support Kira’s Legacy Fund, please click on the link below.

Amna was a talented, bright young girl who will be missed yet never forgotten.

More amazing athletic news worth sharing: Coach Sayed Hassan, coach of CAC swimmers from 1978 to 2016 received The Grell Award in honor of his outstanding service over the years.

The Grell Award is presented annually to a person who has made significant contributions to the ISST organization.  Dr. Lewis Grell was Superintendent of ASH during the 1970’s and was also the Chairman of ISST. The actual basis for ISST in its present format came from Dr. Grell, and he was certainly the major factor in establishing the organization as the foundation of many athletic programs.

Nominations can be initiated by any ISST Athletic Director, CAC's Scott Fitzgerald nominated Coach Sayed for this year's award. Coach Sayed received a plaque stating the nature of his outstanding service. “The Grell Award is presented annually by Dr. Lewis A. Grell, Founder Chairman of ISST and his children, Lewis ‘74, Holly ‘74, Lynn ‘75 and Jon ‘80, all of whom  participated in ISST activities and graduated from the American School of the Hague. It is presented in honor of, and in gratitude to their wife/mother Pamela Grell, and to all spouses/parents who support the ISST.  “Pamela Grell exemplified the spirit of ISST spouses/parents through her tireless support of ISST activities from 1972 through 1980. To her and the thousands of other moms, dads and spouses who support ISST we dedicate this award and extend our heartfelt “Thanks”.”

SUPPORTING OUR ALUMNI

Sent by our alumna Amina Archer:
“Fellow alumni, one of our own is in need of our help. Kerry Yonushonis, who attended CAC in the 90’s and lives in Houston had her home flooded when Hurricane Harvey struck. Please read the details below as a GoFundMe page was created in the Fall of 2017 to help Kerry and her family recover from the damages. Six months later it has become clear that Kerry needs our help more than ever. Whatever you can give will make a difference. Thank you". https://www.gofundme.com/funds-for-yonushoniss-to-repair
